Apple has acquired its first video game studio, RAC7, the two-person team behind the Apple Arcade game Sneaky Sasquatch.
RAC7 has released several games, including Dark Echo and Splitter Critters, but their breakout success with Sneaky Sasquatch, an Apple Arcade exclusive in 2019, has made it one of the most supported games on the platform since its release.
According to Mac Rumours, there are indications that Apple is set to launch a dedicated gaming app with iOS 19, and that, paired with the acquisition of its first gaming studio, could signal a greater focus on the mobile gaming sector.
Speaking to Digital Trends, a spokesperson for Apple said:
“We love Sneaky Sasquatch and are excited that the 2-person RAC7 team has joined Apple to continue their work on it with us. We will continue to deliver a great experience for Apple Arcade players with hundreds of games from many of the best game developers in the world.”
I wouldn’t expect RAC7 to be the first domino in Apple’s acquisition of studios, but their willingness to help the two-person studio work on supporting Sneaky Sasquatch or develop their next game is only a good thing for that studio.
