In our first look at what’s coming to cinemas in Australia, there’s a mix of big, exciting films we’ve been anticipating since last year, as well as some things finally making their way to Australia that have already been getting awards recognition.
I’m expecting Wuthering Heights to be one of the biggest, if not the biggest film of the month. Although I am wondering if Scream 7 will be able to deliver box-office numbers it had been doing, even with some behind-the-scenes drama that may have turned some viewers away. For big-screen action, Crime 101 is looking to bring highway heights, and a theatrical comedy is hitting cinemas at Fackham Hall. Also shoutout to We Bury the Dead hitting cinemas in February, this film takes place in Tasmania, so it gets a special shoutout from me.

FEBRUARY 5
Is This Thing On?
As their marriage unravels, Alex faces middle age and divorce, seeking new purpose in the New York comedy scene. Meanwhile, his wife Tess confronts sacrifices made for their family, forcing them to navigate co-parenting and identities.
Saipan
On the eve of the 2002 FIFA World Cup, the Irish captain Roy Keane forfeits his place in the squad at the team’s preparation base in Saipan, following a heated disagreement with the Irish manager Mick McCarthy.
Scarlet
A medieval princess on a quest to avenge her father’s death awakens in a realm between life and death, where she encounters an idealistic young man from the present day who shows her the possibility of a future free of bitterness and rage.
Shelter (2026)
Mason is a reclusive man living in a remote setting by the sea. When he chooses to rescue a young girl from drowning in a terrible storm, he unwittingly sets off a chain reaction that soon brings violence his way.
The Strangers: Chapter 3
In the series‘ most brutal chapter, Maya collides with the masked killers, and finds the only way out of the nightmare…is in.
We Bury the Dead
When her husband goes missing in the aftermath of a catastrophic military experiment, Ava joins a “body retrieval unit” in the hopes of finding him alive. But her search takes a chilling turn when the corpses she’s burying start showing signs of life.

Crime 101
An elusive thief, eyeing his final score, encounters a disillusioned insurance broker at her own crossroads. As their paths intertwine, a relentless detective trails them hoping to thwart the multi-million dollar heist they are planning.
Whistle
A group of misfit high school students stumble upon an ancient Aztec death whistle. They find that when they blow the whistle, the terrifying sound it emits will invoke their future deaths to hunt them down. As the body count rises, the friends investigate the origins of the deadly artifact in a desperate effort to stop the horrifying chain of events that they have set in motion.
Wuthering Heights (2026)
A passionate and tumultuous love story set against the backdrop of the Yorkshire moors, exploring the intense and destructive relationship between Heathcliff and Catherine Earnshaw.

Fackham Hall
A new porter forms an odd bond with the youngest daughter of a well-known UK family. As the Davenport family, headed by Lord and Lady Davenport, deals with the epic disaster of the wedding of their eldest daughter to her caddish cousin.
Jimpa
Hannah and her non-binary teenager Frances visits her gay grandfather Jimpa at Amsterdam . Frances expresses a desire to stay with their grandfather for a year, challenging Hannah’s parenting beliefs and forcing her to confront past issues
Pillion
Colin is a weedy wallflower letting life pass him by. That is, until Ray, the impossibly handsome leader of a motorcycle club, takes him on as his submissive.
Sound of Falling
A remote German farm harbours generations of secrets. Four women, separated by decades but united by trauma, uncover the truth behind its weathered walls.

The Testament of Ann Lee
Ann Lee, the founding leader of the Shaker Movement, proclaimed as the female Christ by her followers. Depicts her establishment of a utopian society and the Shakers’ worship through song and dance, based on real events.
