We’re coming in a little late with the September 2025 movie guide this year, but there’s still plenty of movies to come, and we all need to be able to make our cinema-going plans for the remainder of the month.
With what’s left to release this month, there’s a massive event in the latest from Paul Thomas Anderson as he teams up with Leonardo DiCaprio and Sean Penn in One Battle After Another. The romantic fantasy by Kogonada, starring Margot Robbie and Colin Farrell, also appears to be an interesting new film with an original script. The Strangers: Chapter 2 continues the latest trilogy from director Renny Harlin, and Spinal Tap II: The End Continuessees the classic documentary returning to the big screen for another run.
Here are all the new films coming to Australian cinemas in September 2025.
SEPTEMBER 4
Fight or Flight

Not Only Fred Dagg But Also John Clarke
When satirist John Clarke died in 2017, the world mourned an icon. A defining comedic voice who wrote and appeared in numerous films and TV productions, and who – in a beloved double act with Bryan Dawe – skewered political hypocrisy for almost 30 years on current affairs shows, he gave away very little about his own life. At home, by contrast, he was an open book. In a remarkable series of recorded conversations between John and his daughter, writer/director Lorin Clarke, he traces his steadfast resistance to authority back to his childhood and offers delightful insights into his four decades in the entertainment industry.
One Wacky Summer
At the turn of the century, Ma Fei (played by Guo Qilin), who had left his hometown, returned to Tianjin. Under a series of unsatisfactory circumstances, he “abducted” his nephew Li Jiawen (played by Hu Langquan), and thus the uncle and nephew embarked on a “rebellious” journey. The situation got out of control, the abstraction kept escalating, and all the absurdities followed.

After Kiki is kidnapped by forgotten incels of the future, the Straight White Maliens, Saira must leave the comforts of gay space to deliver their ransom: her royal labrys (the most powerful weapon known to lesbian kind). Only problem is… she doesn’t have it.
