PlayStation is rolling out a brand new PlayStation App across the world right now. It’s a major overhaul featuring a sleek design and, for the first time, it’s very user friendly.

The biggest change that is going to be a game-changer in that the PlayStation Store is now integrated into the app. It no longer opens a separate browser window. Much like how Sony has promised that the PS5 will have an integrated and faster store, the PS App now loads in an instance and lets you see what’s new and upcoming on the storefront.

PlayStation Message was a separate app but now everything is done inside the PlayStation App. Message friends or start group chats. In Sony’s continued work to unify the PS experience, you can favourite party chats as well. You can join a party chat with up to 15 people via your phone, even if you’re not gaming.

I’m also quite happy to report you can rename, change the display picture and even send voice-clips from your phone to a group chat. It’s like Facebook Messanger but for PlayStation. Of course, as Sony showed off in the PS5 UI video, you’ll be able to send screenshots, send game invites and more when you’re playing on your PS5 and this app will unify that whole experience.

There’s also a nifty PlayStation Explore column that loads fast and will share information about games your playing or big PS Blog post. This looks similar to the set-up on the PS5 we saw in the UI video a couple of weeks ago.

Personally, I’m loving these changes and think the app not only looks fantastic and runs amazing, but it also feels like a warm-up for next-gen.

If you already have the app on your phone you should have an update queued for it. If you haven’t downloaded it before just search “PS App” on your iOS or Google Play device.
