PlayStation Plus Games and Trophies For August 2018
by Dylan Blight
Sony has released the upcoming list of games coming to PlayStation Plus for August 2018. Leading the titles this month are Mafia 3 and Dead by Daylight, available 7th of August.
There are two extra titles this month as well as the usual PS4, PS3 and Vita titles. You can grab Here They Lie for PSVR available until October 2cnd and Knowledge is Power the PlayLink title until November 6th.
This month you will able to achieve a total of 6 Platinum, 16 Gold, 60 Silver, and 220 Bronze trophies. If you have the 6+ tablets or devices needed, Knowledge is Power is the easiest Platinum trophy for the month. Mafia 3 is the second easiest you'll have, it can be time-consuming and need two playthroughs but nothing is a huge struggle.
MAFIA 3 (PS4)
'It’s 1968 and after years of combat in Vietnam, Lincoln Clay knows this truth: family isn’t who you’re born with, it’s who you die for. '
Mafia 3 has a lot of cool things going for it, including its setting, story and characters. Some of the moment to moment gameplay can become repetivitve, but I'm a fan of the game.
I picked up the Platinum quickly after release which is striaght-forward enough and have been looking for an excuse to do the DLC -- this might be it.
DEAD BY DAYLIGHT (PS4)
'Dead by Daylight is a multiplayer (4vs1) horror game where one player takes on the role of the savage Killer, and the other four players play as Survivors, trying to escape the Killer and avoid being caught and killed.'
We've played a lot of Friday The 13th here at the Explosion Network but haven't dabbled in Dead by Daylight, but this month might be a great time. It's 4vs1 gameplay with a bunch of horror characters including Freddy Kruger and looks like a slashing good time.
Trophy wise it's an online grind fest with a bit of luck involved for a lot of the scenarios. You'll probably need 100+ hours to get the Platinum.
KNOWLEDGE IS POWER (PS4, PLAYLINK)
'Claim your fame in a sparkling PS4 exclusive game show quiz from the growing PlayLink range. Don’t worry about your DUALSHOCK 4 wireless controller – simply grab your smart device, choose from one of eight characters and snap a selfie, then enter the Pyramid of Knowledge, where you and up to five friends answer a variety of themed questions in a madcap race to its summit. '
Sony's push to get more people playing the PlayLink games continue, so if you didn't grab Knowledge Is Power by now on many of its sales at EB Games, here's another for the family, fun trivia game.
You can grab an easy Platinum here if you have a bunch of smart phone or tablet devices to play the game on. Alternatively, there are programs on the PC that you can use to pretend to be a phone but will use a lot of CPU power.
HERE THEY LIE (PSVR + PS4)
'Here They Lie transports you to a terrifying world from which you cannot escape. Explore a nightmarish city inhabited by strange, malevolent creatures in this ground-breaking first-person horror.'
One of the launch window PSVR games, Here They Lie actually received a PS4 patch making it playable in non-VR in February. So yes, it's a PSVR title this month, but people without VR can play it as well if you're looking for a horror experience.
The game doesn't have a Platinum, unfortunately, but you can pick up all the trophies with a collectable guide in 3-5 hours.
BOUND BY FLAME (PS3)
'Bound by Flame features real time combat that is both tactically deep, dynamic and spectacular. Defeating your enemies won't be an easy task, as every single monster and creature you'll encounter has its own behavior, strengths and weaknesses you'll have to exploit in order to tear'
A tactical RPG, Bound By Flame will require several playthroughs and upwards of 60+ hours to get the platinum. If you're looking for a deep investment for your PS3 this month you have Bound By Flame.
SERIOUS SAM 3: BFE
'Serious Sam 3: BFE is a glorious throwback to the golden age of first-person shooters where men were men, cover was for amateurs and pulling the trigger made things go boom.'
Serious Sam games are somewhat of an acquired taste. The BFE edition includes DLC from the PC version and was basically a 'directors cut,' of sorts.
I wouldn't reccomened touching this for trophies. You need to play online for at least a couple co-op trophies, but can't unlock 90% of the trophies playing in co-op for some reason. There are difficutly releated trophies and you'll be looking at several playthroughs. Probably the worst game trophy wise this month.
DRAW SLASHER (PS VITA)
'Meet Hanzo. He’s a ninja. While he was training ‘out there’ the Pirate Monkey Zombies™ - stupid, ugly, smelly, rotten and disgusting creatures - kidnapped his family. Take control of his awesome blade and aid him in the quest to free them.'
A PS Vita game played entirely using the touch screen. As the title says, you draw to slash and control Hanzo.
No Platinum trophy here, and the trophies there are aren't easy grabs even if the story mode is relatively short. You'll need the patience to complete the challenge mode levels necessary for the 100%.
SPACE HULK (PS VITA)
'The legendary Space Hulk returns in this epic turn-based strategy game. Set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, an intriguing story of legendary battles and heroic actions unfolds.'
A turn-based strategy game for the PS Vita this month might peak the attention of Vita owners looking for something to play. Space Hulk is a Warhammer 40k universe game, so for fans of the tabletop game or some of the other third-person shooters or RTS's in the universe, this might be fun.
You'll need 40+ hours to grab the Platinum trophy and a couple playthroughs if you choose to grab a grindy Vita Platinum this month.
Note: the original version of this article said Knowledge is Power had been on PS Plus previously and has since been corrected.
