Entertainment Weekly has published the first official look at Brie Larson as Captain Marvel for the upcoming self-titled film debut of Carol Danvers due for release on 7 March 2019.

The only upcoming movie for Marvel before Avengers 4 might prove to be the most important release from the studio in 2019. Captain Marvel will not only be the first solo female movie from Marvel as the 21st entry into the franchise, it will also be the first to be directed by a female with Anna Boden.

Bolden told EW this when speaking about Danvers in the film:

“This is not a superhero who’s perfect or otherworldly or has some godlike connection. But what makes her special is just how human she is. She’s funny, but doesn’t always tell good jokes. And she can be headstrong and reckless and doesn’t always make the perfect decisions for herself. But at her core, she has so much heart and so much humanity — and all of its messiness.”

Captain Marvel will also see the return of some past Marvel characters with Lee Pace back as Ronan (Guardians of the Galaxy), Samuel L. Jackson as a Nick Fury with two eyes, Clark Gregg returning to cinematic Marvel as Coulson and Djimon Hounsou as Korath (Guardians of the Galaxy.)
