Netflix Is Going Ahead With A ‘Death Note’ Sequel
by Dylan Blight
Despite very negative reviews from the majority of critics and an outpour of criticism from fans of the anime series and manga, Netflix is moving ahead with a Death Note sequel.
The announcement comes without fanfare as it was offhandedly mentioned in a report by the Hollywood Reporter about Netflix's upcoming film and tv projects.
Greg Russo is writing the planned sequel with no attached director, although Adam Wingard did mention he would like to do it when the first film released last year.
I reviewed the 2017 film and said:
"Death Note moves its characters, rules of the death note and ridiculous plot in any way it sees fit to reach its conclusion. It’s as if it was written backwards. Death Note is a disappointing adaption for fans and you're better off watching the Japanese live action films. But it’s also a disappointing film for Adam Wingard, and I’d suggest you watch literally any of his other movies."
