Borderlands 2 is getting a brand new expansion -- that’s no typo either. The 2012 game is getting a brand new DLC called ‘Commander Lilith & The Fight For Sanctuary’.

The expansion is a bridging DLC between Borderlands 2 and the upcoming Borderlands 3, which released on September 13th.

The press release description for the DLC reads:

Commander Lilith & the Fight for Sanctuary takes place shortly after the events of the main story in Borderlands 2. Sanctuary is under siege, the Vault Map has been stolen, and a toxic gas is poisoning Pandora. You’ll step back into the boots of legendary Vault Hunters Maya, Salvador, Axton, Zer0, Gaige or Krieg to battle new bosses, explore new areas, and collect new loot, including an entirely new tier beyond Legendary. Join up with Lilith and the Crimson Raiders to take on a deranged villain hell-bent on claiming the Vault Map for himself.”

A new level cap of 80 (from 72) has also been added for returning players to strive for while they wait for Borderlands 3 to arrive.

You don’t need a fully leveled up character to play the DLC either if you just want to jump in for the bridging story. From the character creation screen in Borderlands 2 you’re able to start a level 30 character and jump right into the story of ‘Fight for The Sanctuary’.

Both Borderlands 2 on Steam & Borderlands: The Handsome Collection owners on Xbox One and PS4 can access this DLC for free now until July 8th.

If you don’t own Borderlands yet -- it’s very easy to get at the moment. It’s just joined Gamepass today (as announced in Xbox’s E3 Conference) and is a part of PlayStation Plus this month. It’s also on sale for 97%off on Steam at the moment until June 17th. So take your pick of ways to grab the game.

A brand new trailer for Borderlands 3 was shown at the Xbox Conference today as well which you can check out in all its looter-shooting glory below.
