Many a 'Tales From The Borderlands' fans (myself included) were excited to see Rhys turn up in the reveal trailer for Borderlands 3 at PAX East a couple of weeks ago, but it seems Troy Baker, who brought that character to life, isn't returning for the role in Borderlands 3.

Troy Baker speaking at his panel at Supernova in Melbourne this past weekend answered a fan's questions about Rhys in Borderlands 3 and thankfully Reddit user Josh_J_Anderson captured the footage so we can hear his answer.

Troy Baker explains there was a possibility he was going to be in it but then, like the fans, was amazed to see Rhys show up in the "epic trailer." He continued to speak to Gearbox somewhat as he explained his thoughts on Rhys being in the game.

"I would love for Gearbox to know -- it's not about me, it's about that character. And again, Matt Mercer has taken Kanji (Persona 4), Yamato, Pain (Naruto) and run with it and done an incredible job."

Baker clearly trying to explain that he's upset he isn't playing the role, but trying to clarify that others have taken roles he's played and done great things, and vice-versa as he continued with "there are other people that have played Joker as well" as he played The Joker in the 2013 game Batman: Arkham Origins, but obviously wasn't the first.

"It's just the fact that it's like... I did that you know man? And I'd like to do it again and I don't agree with how they're handling it. And I hate to get political about but Tales of Vesperia kinda got me a little bit (Troy wasn't brought back to voice the character of Yuri Lowell in the Definitive Edition.) The people at Atlas were cool enough to bring me back for Catherine because I love that character. But yeah, I just really want Gearbox to know that if they're going to bring back characters from Telltale's Borderlands, it should be the people that originated the characters. They shouldn't just recast willy-nilly because as a fan, that matters to me. If I turned it down (the role) flatley, we wouldn't be having this conversation. But yeah, I want that real, real hard (the role.)"

Troy Baker obviously brought a lot to that role and I wouldn't be surprised if Borderlands 3 has a small audience brought over solely from Tales of the Borderlands.

Are you disappointed Troy hasn't been back for the role? Or are you holding out hope they can still chuck him in a recording room before Borderlands 3 releases on September 13th?
