DYLAN’S RATING: 👍👍

I absolutely adore this trailer and it's easily my favourite trailer of the year thus far. Also, honestly, it might be hard to top until a Star Wars trailer comes out for bringing me a feeling of pure joy and those euphoric fandom endorphins.

Where the first trailer just proved to me that this movie was going to work in general — I mean work at all — this follow-up-trailer just hits you hard with "OMG this actually looks amazing!" And yeah, to be fair I am fandoming a bit hard since I was a manic Pokémon child and recently got back into the franchise a lot more, but I even showed this trailer to my parents who had to put up with watching the anime when I was the kid and they loved it as well.

Ryan Reynolds as Pikachu is... funny. Yes, it is just Ryan Reynolds being himself as Pikachu, but it working and for the character, they're writing this Pikachu as it's the perfect fit. It makes so many of the other gags pay off so well in the trailer like the ending Mr. Mime part which is hill-larious.

There's so much to break down in this trailer as well which makes watching it several times so enjoyable. I'll be glad to see this trailer in the cinemas over and over in the coming months if possible.

There are so many new Pokémon in this trailer as well from a Snorlax sleeping in the street while a Machamp diverts traffic in the background to a beautiful Flareon and more. And that Mewtwo at the end! Are you kidding me? Goosebumps. I remember seeing Mewtwo in the theatre as a kid watching the original Pokémon Movie and it scared the hell outta me and again, in this trailer — shivers. Plus look at the new poster (inserted in this article), freaking Mewtwo is on top of a building in the background.

I couldn't be happier with how the first live-action Pokémon movie is being built, especially after how much I doubted it a year ago. I’m so on board now and love the set-up for potential sequels and other franchises this could have. I love this trailer so much.

ASHLEY’S RATING: 👍👍

Another incredible trailer! It’s interesting that this one focuses a bit more on Detective Pikachu and his backstory whereas the first trailer was focused on Tim (Justice Smith). Should we expect the next trailer to feature female-lead Lucy (Kathryn Newton) and her Psyduck?

We get to see even more different Pokemon in this trailer like Machamp, Flareon and Aipom. It’s still cool to see these Pokémon adapted in a realistic way. I never imagined Snorlax would be fluffy.

Of course, there is one Pokemon I kinda wish they hadn’t shown: Mewtwo. As cool as that moment in the trailer was and the great cut to Pikachu saying “what a twist”, I will always wonder how amazing it would have been to go into this film unaware.

I would also put my money on Mr. Mime being the scene stealer of this film, every time I see him, I’m laughing.
