Bluepoint was shut down last week, just five years after Sony purchased the studio and failed to do anything of substance with it in that time. Now, Jason Schreier at Bloomberg has shared a story noting that they pitched a remake of Bloodborne, but FromSoftware shut it down.

In his story, Schreier says that “the studio was told that the numbers made sense, but FromSoftware didn’t want it to happen, according to people familiar with the process.” He also notes that this makes sense given that Shuhei Yoshida had previously said in an interview with Kinda Funny Games that Hidetaka Miyazaki wanted to remake the game himself, but is too busy at the moment to make the project happen.

According to Schreier, the team at Bluepoint also had ambitions to make their own games, or at least work on original games based on known IP, rather than remakes. At the time, they pitched a God of War spin-off, which they spent most of their five years working on, but the game had to be a ‘live-service’ game, as was the mantra for Sony during this period, and we’re still living with the outcome of those decisions.

In their last year before being shut down, the studio also reportedly pitched an updated version of Shadow of the Colossus, a game they had already remastered and remade for PlayStation 4, but Sony said no to that project. They also pitched a spin-off from Ghost of Tsushima.
