Lost In Cult has announced ‘The Game UI Bible,’ a new hardback book dedicated to the history, design and evolution of user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) in video games.
Written by Game UI Database creator Edd Coates, the book is more than 500 pages and explores how game interfaces have evolved from the early days of arcade and PC gaming through to modern releases.
The first half of the book examines the principles behind UI and UX design and how they’ve evolved over decades of game design. The second half features interviews and case studies with developers responsible for the UI in games including God of War, Half-Life: Alyx, Inscryption, and Monument Valley.
Alongside the book itself, the limited edition release includes:
- A 500+ page hardback edition
- A Game UI Database-themed slipcase
- A signed bookplate by Edd Coates
- An illustrated poster by Doug John Miller
The book also includes transparent acetate pages that let readers peel back interface layers to examine how individual UI elements are constructed.
Pre-orders for The Game UI Bible are available now through Lost In Cult.
