Day of the Devs 2023 followed Summer Game Fest again this year, switching the gears from Geoff Keighleys’ AAA-focused show to a slower indie home. All the games showcased here looked super intriguing.
Here are all the trailers and games from the Day of the Devs 2023.
Beastie Ball
It’s volleyball but with some beasties in this turn-based RPG from the developer behind Chicory and Wandersong. But in this sports game, when beasties play against each other, they become friends or rivals and unlock special moves. It may look similar to Pokemon, but this game isn’t about collecting them.
Beastie Ball will be released in 2024.
Hyperlight Breaker
Hyperlight enters the 3D world in Hyperlight Breaker but continues the same gameplay elements players love with procedurally-generated biomes.
Hyperlight Break will be released in 2023.
Simpler Times
Simpler Times is all about the vibes you’ll get by packing up the items of the protagonist and playing around with each of these items.
Simpler Times is releasing soon for PC.
Viewfinder
In Viewfinder, you’ll be using the Polaroid photos you take to solve puzzles, like taking a picture of some stairs and placing them in a spot to walk up the next level.
Viewfinder is releasing on July 18th on PlayStation 5, PC in the future, and a demo is out now.
Hauntii
You control a ghost in Haunti who is working on regaining memories of their past life. You’ll be solving puzzles and more by jumping into objects to haunt them.
Haunti will be released in 2024.
Cart Life
An interesting story behind this game is that it won many rewards and disappeared for over 12 years after the creator pulled it from Steam. Now it’s been remastered, so those who missed playing it can play Cart Life.
Helskate
Tick two genre boxes that are very different but sure to cross audiences. Helskate is some parts inspired by Tony Hawk games combined with a rogue-lite. You skate, do tricks, take down monsters, and attempt to get a high score.
Henry Halfhead
In Henry Half-Head, you play as Henry, who is half a head. It seems you’ll be exploring levels with a list of goals to complete by jumping into objects to solve puzzles and more. It looks very silly but in a good way.
Cocoon
From the lead designer of Limbo and Inside, Jeppe Carlsen, comes Cocoon. This sounds very intriguing but is a lot to wrap your head around, with worlds that sound like they’re in other worlds.
Ete
In Ete, you’re painting the world and bringing colour back to it. As you complete more paintings, you’ll level up, learn how to paint fast and progress your art skills. As the game continues, characters will also commission you to complete art for them.
Summerhill
From the developer of both Alto games comes Summerhill, a game that’s about being friends with your sheepdog and going on an adventure to get back your sheep.
Eternights
The world is ending in Eternights, but that doesn’t mean there’s no time to dungeon crawl, battle monsters, and go on dates.
Retro Gadgets
Less a game and more a simulator, you can build all the “retro gadgets,” including, it seems, the Game Boy.
Mars First Logistics
Aussie game Mars First Logistics has you working alone or with friends completing missions, unlocking more things to build, and slowly building up your tools before creating your own objects.
Salt Sea Chronicles
From the team behind Mutazione comes Salt Sea Chronicle. A story-driven about a crew on a boat dealing with their missing captain.
That’s all the trailers and games from Day of the Devs, but I’d highly suggest watching the full showcase with all the moments in-between. Check out that video below.
