Sometimes, there’s special news hidden away in different regions’ version of Nintendo Showcases, and the recent Nintendo Indie Showcase in Japan held a new trailer for Demonschool, as well as the announcement of the September 3 release date.

Demonschool is a tactical RPG and life-sim combination with inspirations from the Persona series of games. You navigate university life on one side of the game, and on the other, you’re battling all sorts of monstrous creatures in the Demon World. The combat works on a grid-based system, but everyone moves at the same time, adding an extra layer of strategy. The game will also feature numerous mini-games and other content in the Human World for players to explore.

Join college freshman Faye, descended from a demon-hunting family lineage, as she discovers creatures she’d only seen in ancient tomes, now haunting an enigmatic island university. Survive a semester like no other by making friends, forging relationships, and battling gruesome monsters inspired by ‘60s and ‘70s Italian horror cinema and Japanese horror manga on a chess-like board where movement equals action.

Demonschool will release on September 3 for Nintendo Switch, PC, PlayStation and Xbox.
