Geoff Keighley’s Opening Night Live (ONL) once again kicked off an all-digital GamesCom this year. The show featured 40 games, including some heavy hitters like Halo Infinite, a new Saints Row and Marvel game and a big look at Death Stranding: Director’s Cut.
Here’s everything that was revealed or shown during ONL.
A cinematic trailer for Saints Row introduced a cast of characters fighting back against a biker gang. There’s a high-speed chase, big guns, and foul language.
The game is set in the American South West, with a reboot of the franchise from Volition Games seemingly taking a slightly more serious take on the franchise.
Bryce Charles then joined Geoff on the ONL stage to talk about Saints Row and her character in the game before debuting a short gameplay video of Saints Row.
Saints Row will release on February 25 for Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, PS4, PS5 and PC.
The latest game from Massive Monster is titled Cult of the Lamb, and it’s all about a lamb fighting off demonic creatures, saving other animals, and becoming a saviour to its people.
Midnight Fight Express is a 2.5D brawler that looks like it plays out like a cross between just about every action movie stereotype out there. From ultra-serious to outrageous. And it certainly looks bloody.
The reveal of Season 0 of Splitgate showcased the FPS-arena shooting/portal gun antics that players were falling in love with recently. There’s a brand new map being released as part of Season 0, and the game is free to play.
A brand new trailer for Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga showcased the best looking Lego game yet before giving an updated release date of Autumn 2022.
Serotonin, the video game aka Dokev, was revealed during ONL, and it was amazing. Watch the trailer, I can’t do justice or even attempt to explain what this game is, and I’m not sure I even know what it’s about.
Mathijs De Jonge, the game director of Horizon Forbidden West, officially announced that the game had been delayed until February 18, 2022, from the initial 2021 release date.
Also, an update for Horizon Zero Dawn has just gone live, updating the game to play at 60fps on PS5.
The trailer that we’ve seen Hideo Kojima tweet about editing for over a month was revealed during ONL.
There’s a stabilizer in the game now that lets you jet-pack landed over long distances, a canon to shoot cargo out of, and an AI robot that’ll carry your cargo for you named the Buddy Bot.
A training facility lets you practice using all the weapons and gadgets in the game while also aiming to beat the high score. There’s also a new weapon, the Maser Gun.
You can replay boss battles as many times as you’d like via your private room and battle it out for the best score against these fights online.
There’s a race track now, because why not? And you’ll battle it out against other players online rankings.
Of course, the thing we’re all most interested in is the new missions being added to Death Stranding: Directors Cut. We got a glimpse of the mysterious facility that Sam will explore, which looks to be rampant with Mule and some new armoured enemy types.
Death Stranding: Directors Cut is scheduled to release on PS5 on September 24.
Geoff Keighley
ONL ended with the reveal that Geoff will be in Muppet’s Haunted Mansion on Disney+.
