The Exploding Kittens Netflix series is debuting in July, and it’s currently a massive month for Toy Catalogues, so we’re giving away a copy of the original Exploding Kittens card game.
Three things are great for the colder months at the moment: having a heating system, a TV show to watch under a blanket, and a board game to cozy up with friends and family. I can help you with two out of three of those things, which I’m calling a win. And you could be, too!
Exploding Kittens is an easy-to-set-up, quick-to-learn and short play-time card game that’s like playing Russian Roulette except with kittens, with less threat of death and actual violence. Players take turns either playing cards or drawing a card to end their turn — but somewhere in the deck is an ‘Exploding Kitten, ‘ which will cause you to lose the game via explosion. You work to force your opponent to draw this card or overcome it by defusing it using certain cards and placing it back into the deck for opponents to, hopefully, draw instead.
The upcoming Netflix series set to debut on July 13 takes the outlandish ideas and silly nature of the board game and adds a story to it with God himself as the star. It’s not attempting to follow any story or direct translation of the board game, because you really couldn’t.
Matthew Inman, co-creator of the game and series, said:
“When I came up with the idea for this show, I abandoned any hope of trying to turn the card game itself directly into a series. The card game is super fun, but it doesn’t really have a cohesive story. It’s mostly just random jokes and a lot of cats blowing things up. So, my philosophy for the show was to focus on a story that people would want to hear rather than trying to ham-fist the card game into a narrative. This is how I landed on the idea of God being stuck in a cat’s body. Also, that story worked out well for the ethos of the game — because the stakes are high, and Godcat blows up a lot of stuff. That being said, we snuck a ton of Easter eggs into the series for fans of the game. There are hidden objects all over the place, as well as a bunch of our other games referenced in the series.”
If you’ve never played or experienced the joy of watching an opponent draw an exploding kitten card, there’s still plenty of time to dive into the game now. Whether you’re a long-time fan or a newcomer, the game and the series are open to everyone. And to make it even more exciting, we’re giving away a copy of the game that started it all. So, join us in this adventure and experience the world of Exploding Kittens.

Tacocat the palindrome is definitely a favorite, but I have to admit, there’s a certain charm to each of the kittens in the deck. Their unique personalities and diverse powers make for a truly engaging gameplay experience.
