The latest Magic: The Gathering set is out now, featuring Dracula inspired cards, monsters, creatures, blood and gothic costumes; the set is a perfect caper to Halloween if you’re not quite ready to get into Christmas mode just yet.

Following on from the events of Innistrad: Midnight Hunt, the latest set, Innistrad: Crimson Vow, moves the focus from the grizzly vampires to the beautiful vampires and all their blood soaking beauty. Interestingly, the story of this set focuses on a wedding, as Olivia Voldaran attempts to wed Edgar Markov, the first vampire and the uncle to Sorin Markov, the Vampire Planeswalker, who wants to put a stop to the marriage.

Wizards of the Coast has released a cinematic trailer for the release of Innistrad: Crimson Vow featuring fantastic costume design and vampire powers of persuasion.

There are several new and returning mechanics in the latest set.

‘Cleave’ is an alternative cost on sorcery and instant cards that will change how a card is used, sometimes in dramatic ways.

‘Blood Tokens’ are colourless artifacts tokens created by various cards that are useful on their own but can also trigger effects. On their own, ‘Blood Tokens’ read “{1}, {Tap} Discard a card, Sacrifice this artifact: Draw a card.”

‘Training’ is a mechanic used by humans to help grow strength in numbers. Whenever a creature with ‘Training’ attacks with another creature of greater power, you’ll put a +1 +1 counter on the creature with ‘Training.’

‘Daybound & Nightbound’ returns to see Humans flip into Werewolf cards if the conditions are met. ‘Disturb’, which was in Midnight Hunt, also returns, letting you cast transformed cards from your graveyard for an alternative cost. And finally, ‘Exploit’ is back, a triggered ability that lets you sacrifice a creature.

Innistrad: Crimson Vow features Dracula Series cards for vampire fans to collect, and Fang Frame borders vampires like Sorin and Olivia.
