In a new documentary you can watch now, you can hear from the people who made Disney Illusion Island just how much making a Mickey Mouse game meant to them and how it nearly didn’t happen. Plus, there’s a sneaky reveal of an upcoming DLC.
‘The Making of Disney Illusion Island’ is a new documentary by DualShockers. It features interviews with Dlalal CEO AJ Grand-Scrutton and other development team members, from their small beginnings in a garage to their first success in Overruled! and then a surprise meeting with someone at Disney that would eventually lead to Disney Illusion Island, which released last year on Nintendo Switch to primarily positive reviews.
It turns out it was a much bumpier road than the first paycheck from Disney coming in, as the game was actually cancelled by Disney a year into development, and Dlala would go on to make Battletoads before getting another meeting with Disney and a chance to come back and finish their first big and dream project.
Towards the end of the documentary, Project Co-Lead Chris Jones revealed that a new DLC is on its way soon, focusing on the character of Dash Dolphin and that Mickey and the team will be helping him solve an investigation. Outside of that, we don’t know much yet
