The second major PS5 system software update is launching for PS5 owners across the globe sometime in the following 24-hour, and it’s a big one. Full of many requested features, there’s sure to be something in this list of new and updated features that should please you.

Of course, M.2 SSD expansion is now available as part of this update and is, more or less, the flagship feature of the update. Read more about that here, which we’ve covered previously.

One most talked-about negative of the PS5’s UI was the inability to move around the icons or hide ones you don’t use on the Control Centre. Now you can do that to your heart’s content.

You’ll also be able to message friends more easily now and see who’s online, busy or offline, with an updated ‘Friends’ menu.

Next up is another huge change I’ll be thankful for, and that’s the ‘Installed’ tab in the gab library now clearly showing if you have a PS5 & a PS4 copy of a game installed. Both icons will now also appear on the home menu, instead of one being hidden.

A new setting in Audio Output will enable 3D audio through your TV’s standard two-channel outputs. The DualSense will measure the acoustics of your room to apply the correct settings for your space and TV. How good this works is yet to be determined, but I’m keen to check it out.

You’ll now be able to watch your friends ‘Share Screen’ on your mobile device, instead of having it be part of your game screen. I’m sure this change will be significant for those who already like using this feature but hate how it takes up screen space.

You can now earn the ‘Leader’ accolade after playing an online match. The PS5 will also now capture your ‘personal best’ videos for when you complete challenges for a better or higher time or set a personal best. This is kind of like how the console saves trophy videos.

Talking about trophies, oh boy — here’s my favourite piece of news from the update. A new Trophy Tracker lets you pin up to five trophies (per game) through the Control Centre so you can quickly check how you’re progressing. This will be fantastic when you’re chipping away at things like “Kill X enemies with X weapon.”

Disappointingly there’s no mention of the vertical trophy list change being part of this update, although we’d previously heard it was in the last PS5 software beta.

Check out the video below for some more in-depth information on the key update features.
