Splatoon 3 is releasing this Friday, and reviews from Australian outlets have started to splat on in.
Most Australian writers have chosen to publish ‘review in progress’ pieces as the game’s servers won’t be fully available until the launch on Friday. A very valid reason, but most of those without scores still speak highly of Splatoon 3. A repeated phase seems to be that it’s more Splatoon 2 but better, which I’m sure is exactly what some fans wanted to hear anyway.
Here are some of the reviews and what they’re saying:
Player2 (Dylan Burns) – Review in Progress
“If you’ve played Splatoon before, you know what to expect with Splatoon 3. Feeling more like an extra waterslide above an already existing waterpark, what we have here is more weapons, more stages and the tweaking of modes based on player feedback.”
Press Start (Harry Kalogirou) – 8.5/10
“While more iterative than it is innovative, Splatoon 3 is without a doubt the best entry in the series yet. Despite lacking new multiplayer modes at launch, there’s a clear commitment to content and quality, with each aspect of the package being pushed to its logical extreme through smart and meaningful additions.”
Stevivor (Jay Ball) – Review in Progress
“Of what I’ve experienced so far, Splatoon 3 is really just Splatoon 2 with a fresh coat of paint. It’s fun, it’s silly and accessible, and still a great way to introduce younger gamers to online multiplayer in a relatively wholesome package. I just wish there could have been more meaningful content in this latest entry. An always-on Salmon Run and a couple new weapons do not make for a new iteration of a franchise.”
WellPlayed (Kieron Verbrugge) – Review in Progress
“If you’re in it purely for the single player content, you’ll find a lot to love in Splatoon 3. It’s disappointing that there’s pretty much nothing else for you if you’re completely offline – without live servers we haven’t even been able to access the included Tableturf Battle card game or spend any time customising anything – but we’ll have more to say once we can actually get stuck into the rest of the game.”
Vooks (Oliver Brandt) – 5/5
“Splatoon 3, while more of an evolution than a revolution, is the best the series has ever been. Between an utterly fantastic story mode, some great new weapon additions, and tweaks to the tried and trusted formula you’ve come to know and love, Splatoon 3 is everything you’d hope it would be and more. Some will say that it’s “just more Splatoon”, and that’s true, but that’s far from a bad thing in a series that has been, and continues to be, so consistently strong.”
