Silk Soar is a physics-based 2D platformer where you fling your caterpillar from the bottom, all the way to the top. That last part is a maybe, as it’s a struggle out here as a newborn caterpillar.
This game combines two seemingly contradictory elements. It draws you in with its cute little caterpillar, and then suckers you into a rage-inducing game where you will lose all your progress in a moment. I do think that’s the entire point, however, so it’s a great success to the developers who, with utmost precision, have crafted something that’ll make you want to hate and love it at the same time.

Shoutouts to the demo area the team set up for Silk Soar, which featured several adorable caterpillars on the table between laptops for the demo. This also highlights the tactic of drawing you in with the cute bugs.

I think I managed to get four-flings high at most before I’d have my caterpillar come flying back down a level, or in the most frustrating of times, have it come flying all the way back down to where the level began. And it did make me wonder just how high the surface of the game would be — if it’s achievable, or if there will be checkpoints at certain stages so players don’t actually want to throw their caterpillar friend across the room.
A demo for Silk Soar is now available on Steam, allowing you to experience it firsthand.
