Sonic Racing: CrossWorld is the new entry in the Sonic the Hedgehog racing series, and in the latest trailer, we see mechanics new and old coming for this latest race.

Extreme Gear is back for the first time since Sonic Riders, which will enable players to travel across tracks with a “boost-based racing style.”

‘Travel Rings are a new gameplay mechanic introduced in Sonic Racing: CrossWorld, and they do exactly what you think they should as they transport players from one location to another. To avoid getting split up, however, the player in the lead will choose the location that the racers get transported to on the second lap. The options and the change in who’s first will make each race feel unique and different.

“In Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, not only did we want to introduce the innovative idea of racing through different worlds as you warp through the Travel Rings, but we also wanted anyone who had fun playing our previous Sonic Racing games to really enjoy this title, so we took a lot of elements from those past games and incorporated them. We included the Extreme Gear from the Sonic Riders series as well as the Transform feature from the All-Stars Racing series, making it a great culmination of all the Sonic Racing series games to date. I hope everyone really enjoys Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds, said Takashi Iizuka, Creative Officer, Sonic Team.”

In Sonic Racing: CrossWorld, the team at SEGA is promising the most extensive vehicle customisation yet, and for the first time in the series, characters won’t be tied to specific vehicles and race in whatever vehicles they want.

Returning from the past games, the races will take place across land, sea, and air, with the racer’s vehicle changing automatically. Gadgets will also return, with players able to pick and combine different ones before the race to adapt to their personal racing styles.
