Overnight Ubisoft has called three games and delayed Skull and Bones once again.

I have lost count, but Skull and Bones has been delayed again, and this time it is “in order to have more time to showcase a much more polished and balanced experience and build awareness.” This, to me, says Ubisoft is very aware of the joke that the game has become (in part, thanks to the constant delays) and wants to give it a proper push. Which must mean they at least think it is good.

In the same update, Ubisoft has stated that the continued shift in the video game industry, “as the industry continues to shift towards mega-brands and long-lasting titles than can reach players across the globe,” has left them behind. Furthermore, noting a particularly disappointing Holiday season, they have decided to cancel three more unannounced games on top of the four games they cancelled in July 2022.

Yves Guillemot, Co-Founder and CEO of Ubisoft, said:

“Despite excellent ratings and players’ reception as well as an ambitious marketing plan, we were surprised by Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope’s underperformance in the final weeks of 2022 and early January. Just Dance 2023 underperformed as well.”

Ubisoft has dropped its Q3 financial targets by 14% after its holiday season. In the 2023-23 fiscal year, they plan to release Assassin’s Creed Mirage, Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, Skull and Bones and yet other “yet to be announced proemium games.”
