It’s been a while since a PlayStation Showcase, so we’re expecting big things from this Thursday’s showcase. Will Sony come through for all of our predictions? Probably not, but hopefully, we get more than a few correct.
The following predictions are taken from Platinum Explosion: A PlayStation Podcast Episode 306. Listen to the full episode for the complete discussion between Dylan and Ashley on all of their predictions for this Thursday’s PlayStation Showcase.
The Last of Us: Factions
Dylan Blight:
I will go with the easy one. The Last of Us: Factions gameplay is shown, and we finally have a better idea of what it is and when it’s coming. I’m very excited to find out more about what this game is. I still see some people online theorizing that it’s going to be free to play and all this stuff. I don’t think that’s a thing at all. But yeah, I would say we get some gameplay and a, maybe not exact release date, but at least like a rough idea, like a month or, you know, at least a summer, winter, I don’t know, whatever Americans use over there.
Horizon Multiplayer Game
Ashley Hobley:
We’re going to get a look at the much-rumoured, much-leaked Horizon multiplayer game. Obviously, we’ve seen a lot of job listings for this title; we’ve seen leaked images of it being a Monster Hunter-esque game set in the world of Horizon. And I’m all about it.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
Dylan Blight:
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 gets a new trailer and a release date.
Ashley Hobley:
That’s a lock.
Dylan Blight:
Surely, surely.
Ashley Hobley:
I think that’s the most guaranteed thing that could happen in this showcase.
Dylan Blight:
Hahaha
Marvel’s Wolverine
Ashley Hobley:
Wolverine. We’re going to see another look at Wolverine, probably a more extensive story trailer, kind of giving you an idea of what the story of the game is going to be. And if we’re really lucky, an idea of what the gameplay potentially is. Is it going to be super violent or is it just going to be kind of PG-esque?
Dylan Blight:
Hopefully, somewhere above, not hardcore violence, but you know, something
Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater Remake
Dylan Blight:
Metal Gear Solid 3 Snake Eater remake is officially revealed. Is it PlayStation exclusive? Is it, not PlayStation exclusive? Why is it Snake Eater? Why? What’s it mean for the other two games? Are they bothering to do those? This remake gets an official trailer at this with a release date.
Castlevania 3D
Ashley Hobley:
I’ll go Castlevania then. That’s the other long-rumoured Konami title that’s coming to PlayStation. I think we got a trailer but no release date. But yeah, a new full 3D action Castlevania.
Beat Saber
Dylan Blight:
Beat Saber finally comes to PlayStation VR 2.
Ashley Hobley:
Haha
Dylan Blight:
Come on!
First-Party PS VR2 Game
Ashley Hobley:
Alright. Uh, we will get one first-party PlayStation VR title. Either from Team Esobi (fingers crossed) or London Studios. Maybe an expansion of their… What was it? Get Away? I wanna say? No.
Dylan Blight:
Yeah, whatever that’s called.
Ashley Hobley:
Blood and something.
Dylan Blight:
Truth.
Astro Bot 2
Dylan Blight:
I’ll jump off that. A brand new Astro Bot game for PSVR 2.
Ashley Hobley:
Even if it’s an enhanced edition…
Dylan Blight:
I’ll take that too.
Ghost of Tsushima 2
Ashley Hobley:
We’ll just get a tease. A tease! Ghost of Tsushima 2. It’ll just be, I don’t know, Jin on a boat landing on the mainland of China. Or Japan. Something.
Dylan Blight:
Mongolian army in the distance.
Ashley Hobley:
Go fight some Mongols.
Death Standing 2
Dylan Blight:
Death Stranding 2 trailer!
Ashley Hobley:
No chance. Summer Games Fest is like two weeks away. He’s best buds with Geoff Keighley. That’s where it’s going to be shown.
Dylan Blight:
You doubt the amount of Death Stranding 2 that Kojima is happy to show.
Ashley Hobley:
Maybe there’ll be some random, like, it’ll just be the baby inside the ocelot figures again. Just with the massive holding of two in his hand.
Dylan Blight:
We’ll see a trailer here that has just focuses on Elle Fanning’s character or some shit like that. And you won’t see Sam at all. And then there’ll be a Summer Game Fest trailer that has Sam and all that.
Ashley Hobley:
Then you play them at the same time, and they cross over. And then you rewind them both, and they cross over again.
Uncharted Spin-Off
Ashley Hobley:
Uncharted spin-off game. You know, we had that live-action ad that they did with a girl looking through tombs. I think that we’re going to get something in the Uncharted universe. A sequel-esque game too.
Dylan Blight:
What’s his daughter’s name?
Ashley Hobley:
Cassie.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
Dylan Blight:
Let’s not forget this game is apparently coming out this year. In a world where Final Fantasy 16 is about to release, does it make sense to show a trailer for Final Fantasy VII Rebirth? I think it absolutely makes sense. I don’t think it affects it at all. Especially since we don’t get a Final Fantasy 16 trailer in this showcase.
New Cory Barlog Game
Ashley Hobley:
We will get our first look at Cory Balog’s new game from Santa Monica studios that he was making while they were making God of War Ragnarok. From all reports, some crazy sci-fi thing. Not God of War.
New Naughty Dog IP
Dylan Blight:
Naughty Dog teases their next project. It has nothing to do with Uncharted, nothing to do with Last of Us. It’s the brand new IP that we know nothing about, the next big thing.
Earthblade
Ashley Hobley:
They’re gonna show a trailer for Earthblade. This is the next game from the people who made Celeste.
New Bend Studio Game
Dylan Blight:
Bend Studio announces their next game. So this is coming off them teasing this on Twitter at some point last week. Saying something along the lines of they’re nearly ready to say something. Obviously, we thought they were dead, but then they come back, and now they’re like, none of the main people that work there, work there anymore, but it’s still going to be interesting to see what they are doing, other than being forced to make, be the Uncharted/Naughty Dog B team.
Firewalk/Haven Game
Ashley Hobley:
We’re going to see one of the Firewalk or Haven Studio games. So the latest two studios acquired by PlayStation, we’re going to see why PlayStation bought them.
PlayStation 5 Pro
Dylan Blight:
PlayStation 5 Pro announced with a late 2023 or early 2024 release date. Ash, why are you shaking your head? It’s gonna happen whether or not you care. It’s inevitable.
Bungie Indies
Ashley Hobley:
We’re gonna get a sleight of indie titles announced, published by Bungie.
Dylan Blight:
What does that mean?
Ashley Hobley:
Bungie wants to be their own independent arm of PlayStation. So they’re going to have their own slate of indie titles. They’ll be like “Bungie Select.”
