The nominees for the 78th Emmy Awards have officially been announced, with The Pitt and Hacks emerging as the biggest winners, with the two very close in terms of nominations this year.

The Pitt leads the drama series nominations with 25 nominations to its name. In comparison, Hacks has made Emmy history as the most-nominated comedy series in a single year, with 24 nominations. This breaks the previous record of 23, which The Studio and The Bear shared.

This year’s nominations also saw 28 first-time acting nominees, including Taylor Dearden (The Pitt), Chase Infiniti (The Testaments), Sarah Pidgeon (Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette), and Connor Storrie (Saturday Night Live).

Television Academy Chair Cris Abrego said this year’s nominees showcase the incredible range of storytelling currently on television.

“The breadth of work recognised this year — from intimate character-driven comedies and satires to fantasy, thrillers, and costume dramas — demonstrates that great storytelling knows no bounds.”

One of the more impressive achievements in this year’s nominations goes to Jason Bateman, who received four nominations across acting, directing, and producing for Black Rabbit and DTF St. Louis.

The 78th Emmy Awards will be hosted by Mariska Hargitay and, based on previous years, should air live on September 15 on Binge and Foxtel. Stay tuned for confirmation, with the Creative Arts Emmy Awards taking place on September 5 and 6.
