Soulslike ‘Salt and Sanctuary’ Offers New Ways to Break Your Nintendo Switch Next Week

by Dylan Blight

The 2D Soulslike, brutal slasher-platformer Salt and Sanctuary is releasing digitally for Nintendo Switch on August 2.

Developer Ska Studios announced today that their Souls-inspired game is coming to Switch with the help of porting specialists BlitWorks. Alongside the digital release, a physical special edition, Salt and Sanctuary: Drowned Tome Edition, will arrive at retailers during the holiday season.

“The two of us wanted to create a Soulslike game that we wanted to play, and finding that so many others wanted it too warmed our dark little hearts,” said Michelle and James Silva, co-creators at Ska Studios. “Bringing Salt and Sanctuary to the Nintendo Switch means more people who like dismal, satisfying games can play our very dismal, satisfying game.”

Originally released in 2016 for PC, Mac, and PS4, and then on PS Vita in 2017, Salt and Sanctuary has earned praise for how it mashes up — and respects — the genres it draws from, building a devoted fanbase.
