Every year some games continue to get new updates making them worth checking back in with, and sometimes these games could be anywhere from a couple of years, to ten years old, and anything still holding your attention and having you playing it still this far on, with fresh updates, are  worth giving some praise to, which is what these five games below are about.

Here are the best ongoing games that continued to get updates in 2025.

5.) Helldivers 2

When there’s a new mission or event happening in Helldivers 2, it often feels like it’s either been brought on by fans’ interactions and comments with the game’s narrative already or that they will influence how it plays out. And it’s this feeling that makes it one of the best ongoing games of the year, as it consistently feels like the team working on every detail isn’t working in a bubble, but living in the game and its world with the players.

4.) Path of Exile 2

How long will Path of Exile 2 be in Early Access? It doesn’t really matter, as the team keeps bringing new updates, missions, gear, and ways for players to get addicted to hunting for ways to max out their characters and beat the game’s bosses in the fastest times possible. There’s a long way ahead of Path of Exile 2, but it’s certainly been off to a great start.

3.) League of Legends

League of Legends never seems to drop its importance in the ongoing video game space, nor its ability to keep drawing in the esports crowd. And with rumours of a huge update coming soon to bring in even more players, I don’t see it falling out of this list for us anytime soon.

2.) No Man’s Sky

No Man’s Sky hasn’t dropped the ball since it won over players and has run with it, delivering more and more major and minor updates to keep players coming back. Updates this year brought ways for players to build their own museums, multiplayer ships, and more. And all of the updates keep being free of microtransactions.

1.) Fortnite

Fortnite is the never-ending and evolving game of the century. Always evolving, always playing with different gameplay ideas, and nowadays throwing in as many crossovers with big films, wrestling, and music stars as it can. It’s less a game and more of a moment at times, where people come together to see things as wild as an animated Kill Bill film.
