Owlcat Games has shared new details on The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, revealing a progression system that moves away from traditional RPG classes and instead uses a more flexible approach built around weapons, gadgets, and player choice.
In The Expanse: Osiris Reborn, instead of being locked into one particular class, you’ll have an initial specialization for your character, and then you’ll be able to mix it up with other skill trees, enabling different types of play and abilities among your crew in the game.
The four skill trees are:
- Marksmanship
- Gadgets
- Survivalist
- Leader

In the game, you’ll also have equipment that can be upgraded through multiple paths, with some rare upgrades changing how a weapon behaves. Owlcat says developing and customising gear to suit your preferred playstyle is designed to be just as important as investing skill points.
Owlcat has published a new developer blog offering a deeper look at the progression system ahead of launch, if you want to read in deeper detail.
The Expanse: Osiris Reborn is set to launch in 2027 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.
