Every year, there’s an assortment of comedy specials to check out, and now, more easily than ever, some of the biggest streaming services have all started producing them as part of their programming. But which are the best ones? If you’re looking for some new comics to add to your list to check out or a highlight for some more seasons of comedians releasing new material, this is the article for you.

Here are my picks for the Best Comedy Speciaisl released in 2024.

5.) Adam Sandler: Love You

Adam Sandler’s latest special contains some great new songs and musings from a 90’s icon, but this shows purposeful in-perfections that make it one of the year’s best. Between all the laughs, Sandler with Uncut Gems co-director Josh Safdie has crafted an almost surreal special that exists nearly out of time, and there’s a sweet love for life and, in particular, comedy through history, as seen by the fantastic song at the end of this special.

4.) Nikki Glaser: Someday You’ll Die

It was a huge year for Nikki Glasner; among other things, she hosted The Golden Globes and was the standout comic on The Roast of Tom Brady. She also had her latest show, Someday You’ll Die, released by HBO, who reserves their production credits for the best. It’s a fantastic show that plays into all of Glaser’s strengths, from being a comedian willing to “go there” to touching on topics like euthanasia, the always popular cancel culture, and being a woman.

3.) Anthony Jeselnik: Bones and All

The deadpan delivery of Anthony Jeselnik in his latest special, Bones and All, is probably the pan delivery I’ve seen in any special in years. I’m not sure he ever breaks. As he breaks down some heavy and topical issues many other comedians have, he also manages to poke fun at comedians doing so in all the wrong ways as well, making for some of the best jokes in this special, as Jeselnik has been in this industry long enough now to call people on their bullshit.

2.) Nathan Macintosh: Down With Tech

As someone who loves a bit of new tech in one hand and can see the doom in our future in the other, this special destroyed me as Nathan Macintosh makes fun of every angle of modern-age tech, starting with how we destroyed the natural eco-system of jocks and nerds, to how AI will naturally be the end of all things. Best of all, this special is available for free on YouTube.

1.) Courtney Pauroso: Vanessa 5000

Playing a sex robot and giving a demonstration to an audience that narratively fits to be something like CES, Courtney Pauroso gives a sensational performance that requires the utmost commitment and physicality like none other on this list. With some of the best crown interactions of the year, one being the grossest moment of crossing any line, if there is a line, and many others just being some of the biggest laughs. There’s something utterly unique to this special, like nothing else from this list or any comedy special last year.
