Netflix Australia has shared that the Australian-produced series Apple Cider Vinegar has debuted at number one in Australia and number five globally.
The six-episode series stars Kaitlyn Dever as Belle Gibson, a “health guru/influencer” who fakes having cancer, among a string of other terrible things, and lies to get money and fame.

Since the show’s debut on Thursday, February 6th, it has gained 3.8 million views. In addition to hitting number one in Australia and number 5 globally, it’s also hit the top 10 in 31 other countries, including the UK, Canada, and New Zealand.
“We couldn’t be more delighted to see Apple Cider Vinegar embraced by such a large audience around the world and landing in the global Netflix Top 10 after just a few days. It’s a true testament to the incredible talent and dedication of Samantha Strauss, whose writing brought this story to life in such a compelling way, and to the entire creative team.” – Liz Watts, See-Saw Head of Film and Television (AUS).
Apple Cider Vinegar joins a growling list of original Netflix series that were produced in Australia. Heartbreak High and Boy Swallows Universe are both peaking in the top five globally, and both are picking up awards at last week’s AACTA Awards.
We discuss the first couple of episodes of the series on this week’s episode of the ‘What Do You Wanna Watch?’ podcast, which will be released at 6 PM AEDT Wednesday.
