The PC Gaming Showcase returned for 2020. There may have been no E3 this year, but this show was as weird and as much a mess as it usually is, but that’s where a lot of its charm comes from. It was once again hosted by Sean “Day 9” Plott and featured around 2-hours worth of game reveals, trailers and developer interviews.
Here are all the trailers and announcements from the show.
Valheilm
This one had already featured a teaser in the Guerilla Collective earlier in the morning. If you read my recap of that showcase I already shared this trailer over the teaser as it was more interesting.
“A survival & exploration game set in a fantasy world inspired by norse mythology and viking culture.”
Another fantastic trailer for Ooblets to announced it’s coming to Early Access later this year.
“Ooblets is a farming, town life, and creature collection game. Manage your farm, grow and train your ooblets, explore strange lands, and have dance-offs!”
Torchlight 3 isn’t coming to Early Access SOON – it’s out now in EA.
“In Torchlight III, Novastraia is again under threat of invasion and it’s up to you to defend against the Netherim and its allies. Gather your wits and brave the frontier to find fame, glory, and new adventures!”
Creepy trailer for a creepy horror game. Great success!
In Sound Mind is an imaginative first-person psychological horror with frenetic puzzles, unique boss fights, and original music by The Living Tombstone. Journey within the inner workings of the one place you can’t seem to escape—your own mind.
“Airborne Kingdom uniquely blends management with exploration. Barren landscapes never let you stay put for long, but perhaps your efforts can restore the world to its former utopia. Grow your clan, develop technologies, and uncover lost kingdoms.”
“DwarfHeim is the next generation of real-time strategy games. Featuring a thrilling asymmetric co-op game style that will appeal to fans of multiplayer games everywhere. Player roles are critical to the success of your clan, choosing the right class can be the difference between victory and defeat.”
It’s been dleayed into 2021 but it’s this sim is still coming.
“HUMANKIND™ is Amplitude Studios’ magnum opus, a Historical Strategy game where YOU will re-write the entire narrative of humankind – a convergence of culture, history, and values that allows you to create a civilization that is as unique as you are. HOW FAR WILL YOU PUSH HUMANKIND?”
Dean Hall, the creator of DayZ returns to the survival genre.
“An alien world for the taking. Explore, survive and make your fortune if you dare. Icarus is a free-to-play, multiplayer co-operative survival game with persistent metagame progression.”
“A satirical spy-fi lair builder where YOU are the criminal mastermind! Construct your base, train your minions, defend your operations from the Forces of Justice, and achieve global domination!”
“Prodeus is the first person shooter of old, re-imagined using modern rendering techniques. It reaches the quality you expect from a AAA experience while adhering to some of the aesthetic technical limits of older hardware.”
“Project Wingman is a flight action game that lets you take the seat of advanced fighter jets and become a true ace. Fight in various missions and gamemodes ranging from intense aerial dogfights to large scale ground assault in an alternate scorched earth setting.”
They’re pop vinyls and I think they’re trying to make a Fortnite without the battle royale part.
“Blankos Block Party is a MMO set in a vibrant online world styled like a giant block party, with a focus on custom art and design, world-building and exploration, and trading and collecting unique Blankos.”
“EVERSPACE™ 2 is a fast-paced single-player space shooter with deep exploration, tons of loot and classic RPG elements. Experience a thrilling story set in a vivid, handcrafted open-world full of secrets and perils on your journey to become human after all.”
A really unique RPG using medievil animals and history.
“Inkulinati is a turn-based strategy with medieval animals inspired by 700 years-old real-life medieval marginalia. Become a master of the Living Ink and lead your illustrated army to victory on the pages of medieval books.”
The next Total War Saga game will let you play around with the Trojan Horse events and Troy.
“A Total War Saga: TROY is the first in the award-winning strategy series to focus on the Bronze-Age Mediterranean and the legendary twenty-year conflict between the kingdoms of Troy and Mycenaean Greece, known as the Trojan War.”
The final DLC for Remnant: From The Ashes is coming this August.
“Remnant: From the Ashes – Subject 2923 is packed with two unique zones, all-new quests, bosses, weapons, trinkets, armor sets and more, bring an end to the Root once and for all. The final and largest DLC is coming to PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation®4 on August 20, 2020!”
An interesting looking roguelike that’s some ways-away. Like 2022 away.
“Unexplored 2: The Wayfarer’s Legacy is a roguelite action-RPG and prodigious sequel to the critically acclaimed indie gem, Unexplored. Leave the Dungeon of Doom behind and venture into a vast, wondrous world as you embark on a heroic quest to destroy the mysterious Staff of Yendor.”
Great art style as you set up shop and sell potions.
“Assume the role of a penniless witch named Sylvia who must save her debt-ridden potion shop from the clutches of greedy loan sharks. Along the way, you will encounter mighty (and not-so-mighty) heroes, classic RPG creatures, and a genius economist trapped in an owl’s body.”
It is indeed another souls-like and this one is coming to the Epic Game Store somtime later this year.
“Mortal Shell is a deep action-RPG that tests your sanity and resilience in a shattered world. Your adversaries spare no mercy, with survival demanding superior awareness, precision, and instincts. Possess lost warriors, track down hidden sanctums of the devout, and face formidable foes.”
Hand-crafted character add an X-factor to this dungeon crawler that’s due out later in 2020.
“Blightbound is a multiplayer dungeon crawler that tasks three heroes to venture down from their mountain refuge to face the abominations of the Blight – a mysterious and corrupting fog that enshrouds the land.”
A detective stealth game with a blocky art-style that could make for a unique factor.
“First-person detective stealth game set in a fully-simulated sci-fi noir city. There’s a serial killer on the loose, and it’s up to you to catch them by any means necessary: Sneak, tail, hide, hack and lock-pick. Just keep a low profile!”
You travel back to the Roman days and can do whatever you want (kinda.)
“Travel 2,000 years into the past and relive the final days of a cursed Roman city, where if one person sins, everyone dies. Each secret uncovered and decision made could save the 26 lost souls caught in the cursed cycle – or doom them forever. Can you break the time loop?”
I played a demo for this recently. It’s one for Danganronpa fans or general fans of weird and wonderful games.
“Paradise Island, a world outside reality. There’s been a murder that only “investigation freak” Lady Love Dies can solve. Gather evidence and interrogate suspects in this open world adventure. You can accuse anyone, but you’ll have to prove your case in trial to convict. It’s up to you to decide who’s guilty.”
A cartel game, but also it’s a tycoon. Try it yourself! There’s a demo to download via Steam.
“Cartel Tycoon is a story-driven business sim inspired by the ‘80s narco trade. Expand and conquer, stave off rival cartels and authority attention, earn people’s loyalty and try to overcome the doomed fate of a drug lord with too much power.”
A great art style and co-op gameplay. Sign me up as a trash sailor.
“Trash Sailors is a hand-drawn sailing action with co-op up to 4 players. Control the group of castaways by local or online multiplayer, and create the trashiest sailing team in history! Make your slapdash raft, fight with mutants, and trash your friendship!”
We finally have a release date for Cris Tales and it’s November 17th, this year. I played the demo last year and I cannot wait for more.
“Cris Tales is a gorgeous, indie love letter to classic JRPGs with a new perspective. Peer into the past, act in the present, and watch as your choices dynamically change the future — all on one screen as you play!”
“Set in a vibrant fantasy world created in collaboration with RPG veteran Chris Avellone, Alaloth offers fast-paced action with a deep narrative, bringing ARPG dynamics to a new level with a skill-based gameplay inspired by great classics and modern masterpieces.”
A new trailer and really interesting interview with Raphael Colantonio. He also teases a demo may be coming soon.
“Survive and unveil the mysteries of the Weird West through the intertwined destinies of its unusual heroes in an immersive sim from the co-creators of Dishonored and Prey.”
It’s coming to PC as well as previously announced PS4/Switch.
“STORY OF SEASONS, the beloved farming franchise, makes its debut on the Nintendo Switch. In a complete remake of the Game Boy Advance classic, FRIENDS OF MINERAL TOWN will let series fans revisit nostalgic locales and encounter familiar faces. Reimagined with HD visuals, the heartwarming graphics and addictive gameplay are sure to inspire a whole new generation of farmers.”
“Fate has summoned you to the shores of Aeternum, the Eternal Isle. Overcome the brutal legions of The Corrupted and draw battle lines with competing players in this open world MMO fraught with danger and opportunity. In a land hell-bent on your destruction, what will you do to survive?”
DontNod is now self-publishing and this is the first time we’ve seen Twin Mirror in about a year.
“Samuel, a 33-year old man recovering from a recent break-up, returns to his hometown Basswood, West Virginia, for the funeral of his best friend. Understandably depressed and bitter, he feels completely out of sorts and out of place… But when he wakes up in his hotel room with a bloody shirt and no memory of his whereabouts the previous night, he embarks on a twisted investigation to find the truth.”
It was revealed a couple of days ago but it’s still a very cool trailer.
“Strike terror into the hearts of demons and devils as you fight your way through eight Hells. Metal: Hellsinger is a rhythm FPS, brimming with diabolical enemies, powerful weapons, and metal music. Set out on an infernal journey in order to achieve the purest of goals: Vengeance.”
Felicia Day introduced this latest trailer for the charming RPG.
“Step into the wacky heroic fantasy universe of the Dungeon of Naheulbeuk. Lead a team of unlikely and clumsy heroes in an epic and challenging tactical RPG. Live an adventure filled with humor, surprises and silly encounters.”
This looks like playing Journey, but in a boat – still in the desert.
“Explore the desert aboard your sailboat, rescue stranded people on your way, bring them home, while looking for other members of your waning clan: the Red Sails.”
Now bosting a story mode, multiplayer and creation mode – Suregon Simulator 2 looks to add a lot to the ridiculous nature of the original game.
“Surgeon Simulator 2 is the gut-busting video game sequel to the original operation sim from Bossa Studios, available now to pre-order on PC from the Epic Games Store. Surgeon Simulator was originally released in 2013, and quickly gained popularity amongst YouTubers (including Markiplier, Rooster Teeth and Jackscepticeye) due to its chaotic gameplay and the rib-tickling moments that occurred as a result. But believe us when we say Bob’s chest cavity isn’t the only thing to have opened up this time round…”
Hello Games continues to be on the up-and-up with all the content and fixes for No Man’s Sky and their smaller adventure in The Last Campfire is looking more and more promising. The games coming later in 2020.
“The Last Campfire is an adventure, a story of a lost ember trapped in a puzzling place, searching for meaning and a way home.”
