The Kindle ColorSoft is finally available in Australia and it looks like a great reason to upgrade.
This new model brings, as the name would suggest, colour to the Kindle. All through the use of missing the ‘U’ in COLOUR. I kid. This new e-reader does look very good, and I’d love to upgrade my PaperWhite.
There are some basic new things you’ll get in the wide world of colour, including being able to browse and appreciate the covers of books in colour once again, as you would in a bookstore if you remember those. But there’s also the opportunity to open yourself up to types of books that wouldn’t have worked on a PaperWhite, including Graphic Novels, Comic Books, Children’s Books, Cookbooks and much more.
Amazon has said that this new 7-inch display has been designed to deliver the same quality screen that customers have come to expect from their Kindles, but now with colour.
“[Kindle ColorSoft] uses an oxide backplane with custom waveforms for fast performance and higher contrast on both colour and black-and-white content. Its custom Colorsoft display includes a new light-guide with nitride LEDs that, when combined with Amazon’s custom algorithms, enhances colour and increases brightness without washing out details. Customers can zoom in on images without worrying about pixelation and can choose between standard or vibrant colour styles.”

Amazon also states that this device comes with 8 weeks of battery life, and it is waterproof. The 16GB model is available for $399 RRP and comes with three months of Kindle Unlimited included in the purchase. And then there’s the Kindle Colorsoft Signature Edition, which is available for $449, and adds an auto-adjust front light, the ability for wireless charging, and a huge 32GB of storage. Covers for these new models are all available as well, in plant-based leather and several colours.
You can purchase the Kindle ColorSoft here, and if you’d like to grab the premium Kindle ColorSoft Signature Edition, you can buy that one here.
For fun, jump into the comments section and guess how many times I auto-corrected ColorSoft to “ColourSoft” while writing this article.
