There’s a new Astro Bot game on the way, a fully-fledged one with a bunch of worlds, levels and crazy gimmicks that are sure to bring a smile to anyone’s face.

Astro’s Playroom was included on the PS5 at launch and not only was it one of the best games of that year, it’s still one of the best PS5 games year later and it’s free. The only downside was that it was about an hour, so that should all be rectified with Astro Bot when it releases later this year.

The trailer shows Astro teaming up with other bots who are cosplaying as various PlayStation characters including Krators, Aloy, Drake and more. Plus, there are shoutouts to some older and more Japanese-centric characters like Ape Escape and PaRappa the Rapper. There’s also a massive moment at the end of this trailer that looked like the last act of Rogue One but with PlayStation.

In Astro Bot, players will explore six galaxies, over 80 levels, and use over 15 new abilities that will all change the gameplay style. All in search of finding Astro’s scattered crew while having to battle over 70 new types of baddies and at least six massive boss fights.

On the PlayStation Blog, Nicolas Doucet, Studio Director at Team Asobi, shared details on some of these new powerups and how they affect gameplay.

“As you would expect from an Astro game, these take full advantage of the DualSense controller, its haptic feedback and adaptive triggers so you can feel every little step along the journey. Among the many new powers, you will find Barkster, the Bulldog Booster that lets you air-dash and smash through enemies, metal and glass, the Twin-Frog Gloves that offer long-range punching and the ability to swing and the Giant Sponge that lets you suck up water from the environment to grow huge and cause massive (and slightly moist) destruction.”

For those wanting a bit more of a challenge, there will also be “die-and-retry” levels.

Astro Bot will be released on September 6 for PlayStation 5. Are you excited to play the game? Let me know in the comment section below.
