Box Knight | PAX Australia 2026 Preview

Box Knight offers engaging co-op gameplay, stunning visuals, and diverse enemy encounters.

Box Knight moves the Fantasy brawler into the office, filling the place with goblins and other nasty fantasy creatures. The hand-drawn visuals give the game a great look and personality, while the unique setting and visuals are one of the things I like most about it during my preview at PAX AUS 2026.

I played a short slice of the demo with one of the developers, playing together to finish the stage in co-op; I then tried the demo solo and had a blast doing so. The demo ranged across one level and lasted around the fifteen-minute mark. It introduced combat and the different enemy types and concluded with an epic boss battle. The short demo with the team games gave me the chance to experience both the solo and coop version of the game. I could see this being a great game to play with friends.

The combat was fast-paced, smooth and well animated. There were a variety of enemies to deal with, including goblins, some ranged enemies and some odd-looking mini-bosses. Each of the enemies had unique attacks, weaknesses and weapons. The variety gave the section a unique feel, and each new enemy brought something different to combat, making it more enjoyable.

After seeing the range of enemies in the demo, there was only one type that initially got on my nerves: the ranged attackers, but once I figured out how to parry and send back their attacks, I felt more at home with the game. There were a few different attacks, including a light heavy attack, a dodge and a few more, including an ultimate that took time to charge.

Visually, Box Knight looks amazing; I really like the hand-drawn style; it reminds me of Castle Crashers or Lost Castle 2. The odd enemies are funny-looking and made me laugh, especially in the office setting. The theme carried through the demo, giving it a distinctive backdrop. It made for a more memorable game for me.

The demo finished with a boss battle that combined the tough boss with a bunch of minions. It was tough but satisfying to defeat him. The smooth combat shone through in this area.

Box Knight is currently available on PC via Steam and also has a Demo
