The winner of Best Picture at the 2022 Academy Awards was Apple TV’s CODA, making it the first time a streaming service has picked up the big award, Hollywood’s biggest show.

CODA (Child of Deaf Adults) is a heartwarming story about Ruby, the only hearing person in her deaf family. She helps her mother, father and brother out with their fishing business but wishes to pursue her passion for music. However, she’s torn between her dreams and family when they need her help with their growing business.

Sian Heder directed and wrote the film, which is based upon the screenplay by Victoria BedosStanislas Carre de MalbergEric Lartigau and Thomas Bidegain for the french film La famille Bélier.

CODA made it into Explosion Network’s Best of 2021 awards in our Best Movies of 2021 and Top 5 Dramas. We also awarded Troy Kotsur our award for Best Supporting Performance in a Drama Movie in 2021. He picked up the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor for CODA at the Oscars, a highlight of the night.

In August last year, we released a spoilercast for the film on our premier media podcast, What Do You Wanna Watch? Give that a listen below.
