Disney has announced their plans to follow Netflix’s path to crack down on password sharing on its streaming service. They will not only be looking to crack down on those sharing passwords to their account outside their own home, but they’ll also be raising the price of Disney+ Premium.
When Netflix announced they’d be cracking down on those sharing the password to their accounts outside their home, we all wondered how it would work out. However, as the streaming service saw nearly a 6 million subscriber increase in the first month of changing its rules, I’m sure Disney+ is looking to follow Netflix’s success.
Bob Iger, CEO of The Walt Disney Company, said:
“We are actively exploring ways to address account sharing and the best options for paying subscribers to share their accounts with friends and family. Later this year, we will begin to update our subscriber agreements with additional terms and our sharing policies. And we will roll out tactics to drive monetization sometime in 2024.”
The price for USD Disney+ is also being raised from $10.99 per month to $13.99 USD per month. No changes for Australian pricing have been announced as of yet, but I would expect Australian pricing to go up as well.
