Square Enix shared a bunch of announcements at the Final Fantasy XIV Fan Festival event in Berlin.
During the keynote announcements, we got the reveal of the first new job being added as part of the Evercold expansion, as well as more, including a Nintendo Switch 2 release date and a crossover with Final Fantasy VII Remake.
Here’s everything announced during the keynote.
Evercold Expansion
The next expansion for Final Fantasy XIV, which is titled Evercold, will be released in January 2027, kicking off the new ‘Godless Realms Saga.’ We also learned that the first new job added in the expansion is the ‘Bastion’ job. They’re a tank class that fights with twin greatshields, which are known as “skyltborg.”

Square Enix also unveiled the Evercold Collector’s Bundle, which includes:
- Evercold Special Art Box
- Reaper Figure
- Ethos Metal Keychain
- Köttr Mini Plush
- Tapestry of the Fourth

The digital Collector’s Edition also includes:
- Crystal Skyltborg Bastion weapon
- Vallhallar Odin mount
- Entreat Crystal emote
Pre-order information has yet to be revealed, so keep your eyes out and on the news.
Final Fantasy VII Remake Crossover

‘Beyond the Lifestream’ was revealed as an eight-player raid series crossing over with the Final Fantasy VII Remake Trilogy.
The project is being developed in collaboration with Final Fantasy VII Remake director Naoki Hamaguchi.
Evangelion Raid
We got a new teaser for the previously announced EVANGELION – Ghosts of Desire alliance raid series.
Nintendo Switch 2 Release
Final Fantasy XIV will launch for Nintendo Switch 2 on August 4th, 2026.
Nintendo Switch 2 players will also receive an approximately one-month free subscription period to help manage server demand at launch.
Main Story Progression Updates

Players will be able to choose which major areas they tackle first in Evercold. Also, a new ‘Auto Content Balancing’ system will dynamically adjust dungeon difficulty and enemy levels based on the chosen route.
Expanded Character Creator

A new Character Action Skins feature will allow you to customise the animations used for actions such as Teleport and Warp, with additional animation options for job actions planned in future updates.
Chocobo Companion Overhaul

Patch 8.1 will introduce a major overhaul to Chocobo companions.
The update includes a redesigned raising system and, for the first time, allows you to summon your Chocobo companion while running dungeons.
Final Fantasy VII Mini-Game

A new Gold Saucer mini-game called Keybound Brawler arrives on October 28th, 2026, which is obviously inspired by Final Fantasy VII.
Inspired by Final Fantasy VII, the typing-based mini-game supports up to four players.
Patch 7.55 Launches Next Week

Before Evercold arrives, Patch 7.55 launches on July 28th, adding:
- New Occult Crescent content
