As always, there’s a bunch of new horror movies coming to Shudder in August, including Bad Things, which stars Gayle Rankin and Hari Nef, and then there’s Wrong Accused streaming exclusively on AMC2, which is an interesting new True Crime Documentary series. 

If you’re looking for one of the greatest thrillers of all time, Oldboy is coming to Shudder this month, plus some more horror classics in Hellraiser 1-3

  • Paul Dood’s Deadly Lunch Break [Shudder & AMC+ Premiere]

A weedy charity-shop worker is set on winning the big national talent show. But when the actions of five selfish people cause him to miss his audition, he sets out to seek deathly revenge. It’s one lunch break, five spectacular murders.

  • Hellraiser (1987) [New Movie to Shudder]

A woman discovers the newly resurrected, partially formed body of her brother-in-law. She starts killing for him to revitalise his body so he can escape the demonic beings that are pursuing him after he escaped the sadistic underworld.

  • Hellbound: Hellraiser II [New Movie to Shudder]

Kirsty is brought to an institution after the horrible events of Hellraiser (1987), where the occult-obsessive head doctor resurrects Julia and unleashes the Cenobites and their demonic underworld.

  • Hellraiser III: Hell on Earth [New Movie to Shudder]

An investigative reporter must send the newly unbound Pinhead and his legions back to Hell.

AUGUST 3

  • Wrongly Accused [AMC+ Exclusive]

Investigative reporter Louise Shorter revisits some of the greatest miscarriages of justice in British criminal history, cases where lives were destroyed when individuals were wrongly accused of murders they did not commit. During the series. Shorter meets the wrongly accused, family members and those close to the case. Each case is covered in two episodes as she examines the original investigation, which led to the innocent being accused in the first episode and investigates the evidence that eventually caught the real murderer in the second – looking at the mistakes made and the consequences of a killer walking free. In doing so, she reveals the tipping point moments when justice failed and how the wrongs of the law were eventually righted to put the real killer behind bars. 

AUGUST 7

  • A Tale of Two Thieves [Acorn TV & AMC+ Documentary Premiere]

In 1963 in the English countryside, fifteen men pulled off ‘The Great Train Robbery’, netting today’s equivalent of £45 million. This incredible docu-drama-film features Gordon Goody, one of the robbers going on the record and revealing the identity of the missing mastermind behind Britain’s most famous heist – the elusive and mysterious ‘Ulsterman’ who disappeared into the ether with over £2 million. 

  • Oldboy [New Movie to Shudder]

After being kidnapped and imprisoned for fifteen years, Oh Dae-su is released, only to find that he must find his captor in five days.

AUGUST 8

  • You Are Here [AMC+ Exclusive]

You Are Here is a travel/memoir series hosted by award-winning actor, writer and director Colman Domingo (Fear the Walking Dead, Bottomless Brunch at Colman’s, Euphoria) who takes viewers on intimate tours of the cities, places and hidden spots that hold special meaning in his life story. Through the lens of four cities – Savannah, Philadelphia, New York City and Chicago – Colman revisits the locations pivotal to his growth as an artist and an individual, and the web of communities, people and found family who thrive there, and who lifted him up.

AUGUST 11

  • The Communion Girl [Shudder & AMC+ Premiere]

Spain, late 1980s. Newcomer Sara (Carla Campra) tries to fit in with the other teens in this tight-knit small town in the province of Tarragona. If only she were more like her extroverted best friend, Rebe (Aina Quiñones). They go out one night to a nightclub and on the way home they come upon a little girl holding a doll, dressed for her first communion. And that’s when the nightmare begins. 

  • Amigo [New Movie to Shudder]

A fiction feature film that brings together psychological thriller and black comedy, bordering on the macabre, all in the form of an intimate drama.

AUGUST 14

  • Chronicle Mysteries [AMC+ & Acorn TV+ Exclusive]

Starring Alison Sweeney and Benjamin Ayers, the latest episode of Alex McPherson’s true crime podcast centers on the death of a man whose wife seems certain to be convicted for his murder. As she follows the story, Alex, assisted by her colleague Drew Godfrey, becomes convinced that the wife didn’t do it, but unless she can identify and locate the killer before the trial reaches its conclusion, an innocent woman will take the fall for a murder she didn’t commit. In the next episode, murder strikes close to home when disgraced self-help coach Billy Garrett looks to make a comeback in the Harrington area, after serving time for the death of a previous client. Alex McPherson is drawn to investigate when a new employee of the Chronicle (Chuck’s nephew) fails to return from Garrett’s workshop. Using the podcast as her cover, Alex and star reporter Drew Goddard, go undercover at the wilderness retreat. They arrive just in time for the murder of a retreat member, Daniel Baird.

  • Amulet [New Movie to Shudder]

An ex-soldier, living homeless in London, is offered a place to stay at a decaying house inhabited by a young woman and her dying mother. As he starts to fall for her, he cannot ignore his suspicion that something sinister is going on.

  • America Latina [New Movie to Shudder]

Massimo is a dentist from Latina, happily married with two daughters. One day he goes down to the cellar for housework and finds a girl tied up and gagged, asking for help.

AUGUST 18

  • Bad Things [Shudder & AMC+ Premiere]

A weekend getaway for a few girlfriends at a snowy resort becomes a psychological tailspin and bloody nightmare. Long deceased guests and the space itself come to life in this haunting thriller. Starring Gayle Rankin (GLOW), Hari Nef (Barbie), Rad Pereira (Betty) and Molly Ringwald (Pretty in Pink, The Breakfast Club).

AUGUST 21

  • Dead End Drive-In [New Movie to Shudder]

In the future, a health nut and his tag-along girlfriend become trapped in a drive-in theatre that has become a concentration camp for outcast youths.

AUGUST 28

  • The Chelsea Detective [Acorn TV Original Series]

Season Two brings new cases for Detective Inspector Max Arnold (Adrian Scarborough, Killing Eve) and the team to investigate. Max is joined by sharp and quick-witted Detective Sergeant Layla Walsh (Vanessa Emme, Dublin Murders) from Exeter police. Layla quickly gets used to Max’s unique style and will occasionally roll her eyes at the worst excesses of Chelsea.

  • Death in Brunswick [New Movie to Shudder]

Carl Fitzgerald is down-on-his-luck until he meets Sophie, a beautiful Greek girl. He gets a job as a cook but accidentally kills a fellow worker. He turns to his unscrupulous best friend for help and they attempt to dispose of the body.

  • Inn of the Damned [New Movie to Shudder]

A sheriff investigates why the guests at a local hostelry check in but never check out.
