Welcome to our monthly roundup of everything coming to the streaming service Stan. This month’s headling premieres are Save Me Too, the second season of the Lennie James’ Crime Thriller, and the second season of City on a Hill, starring Kevin Bacon and Aldis Hodge.
Here are the highlights to keep your eyes on this month.
16-year-old Claudia has grown up in isolation from the outside world. Stranded on a remote property after her mother’s death, she is shocked when Grace, a spirited local teen, appears in the garden like a mirage, a breath of fresh, sugary air. The pair find in each other the support, love and intimacy they need, and teach each other the restorative power of human connection. But their idyllic peace is a fragile one as the adult world closes in and threatens their secret summer love. Headlining some of Australia’s brightest young talent, Markella Kavenagh (Stan Original Series The Gloaming) and Adelaide’s own Maiah Stewardson (Windmill, STC, Patch), My First Summer takes girls seriously and sensitively.
This scripted true-crime anthology series chronicles one of the most complex manhunts on U.S. soil following the deadly terrorist attack at the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta. Security guard Richard Jewell is lauded as a national hero after he discovers a massive bomb at the Games and saves hundreds of lives by clearing the area. However, his public identity as a brave citizen quickly erodes when the FBI and the news media, led by driven crime reporter Kathy Scruggs, falsely accuse him of being the bomber. As Jewell and his mother Bobi fight to clear Jewell’s name, the real perpetrator, Eric Rudolph, remains at large and undetected as he carries out a series of bombings.
This six-part comedy series stars Samson Kayo and Jane Horrocks as a pair of seemingly mismatched paramedics and follows their fellow ambulance station colleagues through the life-saving world of a south London emergency service. Lucy Punch, Julian Barratt, Adrian Scarborough, Kevin Garry and Sam Campbell also co-star.
Created and starring Lennie James, Save Me Too is the second series of the critically acclaimed drama, Save Me. It’s been seventeen months since Nelly Rowe rescued a vulnerable young woman, Grace, while searching for his missing daughter Jody. Could Grace provide clues to Jody’s fate, or will she derail Nelly’s desperate quest to find his daughter – with potentially terrible consequences for him and those around him? Also starring Stephen Graham, Leslie Manville and Ade Edmondson.
Starring Golden Globe winner and Emmy nominee Kevin Bacon (The Following) and Screen Actors Guild Award winner Aldis Hodge (The Invisible Man) and executive produced by Oscar winners Ben Affleck and Matt Damon, alongside Tom Fontana, the second season of City on a Hill centres on a federal housing project in the Roxbury neighbourhood of Boston that is plagued with drug violence and a rightful distrust in local law enforcement. As coalition leader Grace Campbell (Pernell Walker) works tirelessly on behalf of the community, her efforts are undermined by gang activity happening right under her nose. Enter irreverent FBI agent Jackie Rohr (Bacon), who is here to exploit Boston’s defective criminal justice system in a desperate attempt to salvage his own career. Unfortunately for Jackie, assistant district attorney Decourcy Ward (Hodge) is onto his adversary’s latest misstep. In time, the personal antagonism between these two escalates to an all-out war between the offices of the U.S. Attorney and the Suffolk DA. No one is safe from the collateral damage.
