Over the weekend, Square Enix unveiled a lot of information about the upcoming Final Fantasy XIV Online patch, expansion and more during the FFXIV Fan Celebration event.
One of the most exciting announcements was that FFXIV would be getting Oceanic servers in Patch 6.1. Currently, Australian players have to connect to Japan or North American servers. It’s still quite a wait, however, as Patch 6.1 isn’t expected until late November.
However, Patch 5.55 will soon launch on May 25th and bring Main Scenario, Part II, which will set up the upcoming Endwalker expansion in a “grand fashion.” An additional YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse story has also been added in this update to continue the Nier crossover.
Full details of Patch 5.55 are below.
-
Patch 5.5 Main Scenario, Part II – The second part of this final main scenario update before Endwalker sets the stage for the upcoming expansion in grand fashion.
-
YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse – Additional YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse story has been added to this epic crossover questline.
-
“Save the Queen” Questline Update – This latest update includes a new field area, “Zadnor,” an increased resistance rank cap of 25, final enhancement of resistance weapons, and new large-scale battle content Dalriada for up to 48 players.
Patch 5.5 will also coincide with the official PS5 version of the game launching, which features a native 4K resolution, DualSense features, new trophies, 3D audio and increased frame rates. Owners of the FFXIV on PS4 will be able to upgrade to the PS5 version for free.
FFXIV Endwalker received an official release date of November 23rd, 2021. Endwalker will wrap up the Hydaelyn and Zodiark story, with your heroes facing off against “an even greater calamity than ever before – a second advent of the Final Days”.

FFXIV seems to be being positioned as an endpoint for everything that’s happened in the game so far—making it a great time to either catch up in time for Endwalker or prepare to jump in at a relatively fresh point in the narrative.
Endwalker introduced the next FFXIV melee DPS class, the Reaper. The class specialises with a scythe and shares an armour set with the Dragoon. The standout feature of the Reaper is its ‘voidsent’ ability which sends out a ghost-like creature that can aid you in combat.
A bunch of other details revealed about FFXIV revealed that you could find on the official Square Enix website here.
There was an assortment of interesting FFXIV brand cross-overs announced over the weekend as well. Square Enix has teamed up with Fender to produce a limited number of Final Fantasy XIV Stratocaster guitars for a start. These are expected to start taking preorder in late 2021. The guitar will also bed added as an in-game instrument for players to stum out with.
FINAL FANTASY XIV: Shadowbringers — The Art of Reflection -Histories Unwritten- the second FFXIV art book was revealed as well as the announcement of a reprint of the first artbook, Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn — The Art of Eorzea -Another Dawn- which will release on February 8th, 2022.
