If you’ve been as annoyed at how PlayStation has been sorting the friends’ list since the party system update, I have good news. In fact, I have excellent news. It’s all fixed!
For some silly reason that I still don’t understand, PlayStation decided that when they changed the party system before the launch of the PS5 that they’d also change how your friends’ list was sorted. It now sorted alphabetically by their PSN username, even if you had their real name revealed to you. This change meant a friend like Ashley Hobley, who should have been at the top of my PSN friends list, was in the middle because his PSN starts with the letter g.
However, at some point in the last week, PlayStation has remedied this. I say recently because I only just noticed the change tonight.
Your PlayStation friends list will now sort your friends list alphabetically. Properly, just the way it used to do it.
Your friends will now be sorted alphabetically, with real names revealed and those without. So Ashley Hobley is back to being towards the top of my friends’ list. But also, anyone with a username like “AppleBottomJeansBootsWithThe” will be placed next to him.
Another interesting thing to note is that the friends’ list sorts itself into three categories. You’ll have your ‘online’ friends at the top of your list, any friends that have marked themselves as ‘busy’ next, and then your ‘offline’ friends follow.
I’m very happy to see this friends list update, and I’m sure hardcore PlayStation faithful shall be as well. Good things do come to those who wait, and we only have more PlayStation news to come later in the week with the State of Play. Woo!
