Square Enix has announced that Forspoken has hit its third release date after being delayed from May until October, and now it’ll be released on January 24th in 2023.

In a message shared on Twitter, the team working on Forspoken announced that “as a result of ongoing discussion with key partners”, they’d made the strategic decision to move the launch of Forspoken til January 24th, 2023. They go on to say that the game is complete and is in the final polishing phase.

The “ongoing discussions with key partners” is some weird wording. The delay seems to be reactionary to the announcement of God of War Ragnarok’s release date being November 9thForspoken wouldn’t be the first nor the last game to move its release date because of an existing IP and known property sitting near a new IP release date. Still, the work makes it sound like they discussed the move with Sony themselves.

This is disappointing for those who were excited to play Forspoken this year, but the silver lining is that it’ll only give the devs more time to polish the game in a more relaxed manner leading up to the January release date.
