It’s probably no surprise to learn that streaming services grew or kept a steady pace throughout the year. With many people spending more time in-doors thanks to COVID-19, many turned to their Netflix subscription as their primary source of entertainment. It is interesting to see just what streaming services Australian consumers are choosing to subscribe to, however, and some of the results may surprise you.

Recent stats measured by JustWatch show that Foxtel has seen a steady decline of subscribers over the past few months, although interestingly Binge (owned by Foxtel) has picked up a nice 16% of the Australian streaming market. Netflix has a tight hold on 32% of the streaming audiences in Australia while Prime Video has risen to second place with 23%.

Take a look at these infographics below.

Stan subscribers seemed to have jumped ship to Prime Video over the last couple of months. Presumably due to The Boys: Season Two and the recently released Borat sequel.

Disney+ has been steady but I’m surprised the streaming service didn’t see a boom in new subscribers as parents were stuck in-doors with a need to entertain kids. Although the other streaming services have a small selection of kids & family programs, Disney+ certainly has the most recognised and popular kids shows and movies.

What stands out to you in these infographics? Any shocking revelations? What streaming services have you dropped or subscribed to over the year? Let me know in the comments section below.
