Santa Monica Studio has revealed God of War: Laufey at this week’s State of Play.
Rather than following Kratos or Atreus, the new game places the spotlight on Laufey — better known as Faye — as players explore a brand-new adventure set after her death.
According to Santa Monica Studio, Faye awakens in a mysterious realm known as the Everywhen, an afterlife where gods from different mythologies gather and battle for power. Realising that the plans she put in motion to protect Kratos and Atreus are now under threat, Faye sets out on a journey to find her way home and uncover the secrets of this strange new world.
The new characters revealed are Sekhmet and Begtse, two powerful gods who appear in the gameplay reveal footage, alongside Deborah Ann Woll, who reprises her role as Faye from God of War Ragnarok.
Check out the full reveal gameplay in the video below:
Faye is joined in the adventure by Phranque, a sentient cosmic cube voiced by Jack Quaid, and Rue, an enchanted ribbon guardian voiced by Perlina Lau.
The legendary sword Faye wields throughout the game will also play a major role in combat, with the studio describing her fighting style as “faster and more aggressive” than that seen in the recent God of War games.
No release date was announced for God of War: Laufey, but given the quality of the gameplay we’ve seen here, hopefully it’s not too far away.
