No, this isn’t a late April Fools joke. Magic: the Gathering is about to do one massive cross-over with none other than the King of Monsters himself, Godzilla.
In the upcoming ‘Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths’ set MTG players will be able to get their hands on cards featuring Godzilla, Mothra, Rodan and more from the Toho universe of monsters.
Here’s our first look at the king himself as, ‘Godzilla, King of Monsters.’

Lethal damage dealt to creatures you control is determined by their power rather than their toughness.

That’s waiting for a Commander Deck if you ask me. A whole heap of big strong creatures with weak defence stats being turned around and led by the king himself – what a sight to behold.
These specific Toho Monsters cards won’t be easy to get your hands on, however, and there is going to be a limited number of them amongst the rest of the Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths set.
Here are all the Godzilla Monsters that will be available in the set. 19 total, with 16 available to us and 3 more being Japan exclusives.

Speaking about how the MTG multiverse allows for such creative collaborations, Kyoko Yoshida, Sr Manager, Japan Sales and Marketing at Wizards of the Coast said:
“Collaborating with TOHO CO., LTD to bring the Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah and more onto the same world to battle with Magic’s Planeswalkers and new creatures for a first-of-its-kind collaboration is an extraordinary experience that we can’t wait for players to enjoy.”
Paper MTG players:
You’ll be able to get ONE random Godzilla Monster card with the purchase of a box of Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths draft boosters. While stocks last, you’ll also be able to get one Godzilla, King of Monsters card as a ‘Buy-A-Box’ promo depending on how many boxes your local store orders and how many cards they have to give out.
There will be two random Godzilla Monster cards inside Collector Boosters packs for those looking to guarantee they get some Godzilla Monsters. Those boosters cost around $40 however, which is a steep increase compared to your normal $7 draft booster.
However, the Godzilla Monster cards will not appear inside normal draft boosters, so If you want the cards, you don’t have much choice.
If you have the cash to spare just buy a Japanese Collectors Booster Box and film that sucker being opened for us all to enjoy.
Magic: The Gathering Arena players:
The Godzilla Monster cards will be in-game as card styles that you can get with the purchase of 6 or more boosters of Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths.
There’s more to the Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths set than just Godzilla and friends of course. The set is also going to introduce new, terrifying monsters and focus on an interesting theme concerning forming bonds with those monsters, which makes it the perfect place for this crossover.
Check out the trailer below for a look at some big monsters.
