It is official, Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics game Marvel’s Avengers will be coming to an end on March 31st when the final update for the game will release. Players will still be able to play the game as servers continue to stay open, but no new content is coming.
This news will not surprise many as Marvel’s Avengers has had a rocky release since its launch, with criticism surrounding its lack of polish, to the slow release of content. Square Enix attempted to create a live-service game that was meant to last for years, with Crystal Dynamics stepping out what they have been known for developing to create the ultimate Marvel game and world to play with friends — and it is closing up after Update 2.8.
The cosmetics marketplace will also be getting turned off when Update 2.8 launches on March 31st. Credits will no longer be purchasable, and any remaining on your account will be converted into in-game resources. All of the games’ cosmetics will be free from March 31st. That is all the outfits, takedowns, emotes and more. Players who have purchased outfits will not be refunded for what they’ve spent.

After Update 2.8 on March 31st, support will continue for the game until September 30th but stop after that stage, although the multiplayer and single-player will still be playable for the foreseeable future. You will not, however, be able to buy the game digitally after September 30th, but any retail copies will still work, of course.
Spider-Man will continue to be an exclusive character for the PlayStation version of the game.
Are you disappointed with the news? If you’re an avid Marvel’s Avengers player, I would like to hear about it. Or is this an excellent time to jump into the game?
