Early this morning, Nintendo and The Pokemon Company released the official launch trailer for Pokemon Scarlet and Pokemon Violet ahead of the release next week. It’s choke full of new information, Pokemon, exciting areas to explore, and, oddly, some Ed Sheeran music.

In the trailer, we learn that two books, The Scarlet Book and the Violet book, appear exclusively in their respective games. They hold records from an expedition from a long time ago, and you’ll be using these books to track down the Pokemon they talk about and find out if the information the books talk about is true or not.
Details on these books were expanded upon on the official Pokemon website. Depicted in the Scarlet Book is the monster known as Great Tusk, which the book describes how the “savage monster attacked the expedition team with its large body and tusks, mortally wounding one of the explorers.” While the Violet Books talks about the monster known as Iron Treads “curls its body and rolls to attack, it leaves a trail gouged into the ground, as if it had scorched the earth.”
The trailer also gives us more information and shows off Black Tera Raid Battles, which will feature much stronger Pokemon than you’d find in normal Tera Raid Battles.
These Black Tera Crystals sound like they’ll hold exclusive Pokemon, as The Pokemon Company revealed that during December 1st-4th and then December 15th-18th, Charizard with the Mightiest Mark and a Dragon Tera Type, will be appearing in the Black Tera Crystal Raids. Charizard also cannot usually be encountered in the Paldea region.
There will be spotlight raid events in Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, where specific Pokemon with Tera Types will appear more frequently in Tera Raid Battles. You’ll be able to spot these Tera Crystals with the Pokemon as part of the event thanks to a unique aura around them.
The first of these will be an Eevee Spotlight event which will take place from November 24th until November 27th. During this event, Eevee with various Tera types will appear more frequently in Tera Raid battles.
Information on a Pokemon UNITE event for the launch of Pokemon Scarlet & Pokemon Violet and information regarding Pokemon HOME was also detailed overnight.
