During the PAX Online Gearbox Software presentation this morning it was announced that Borderlands 3 will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series with a free next-gen upgrade.
It’s probably not a surprise that Borderlands 3 is coming to next-gen platforms, but what is nice, is to know it won’t cost you anything. Existing owners of the game on both PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can expect a free upgrade directly to the next-gen version. Players will also be able to bring over any DLC and content they’ve purchases as well as their save files to the next-gen version.
The asterisk on 60fps on single player is probably due to some new co-op features that are coming to the next-gen versions. You’ll be able to play four-player local co-op and it was announced that vertical split-screen is coming for two players. That vertical split-screen update is also coming to the current-gen versions of the game.
The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Borderlands 3 ill run in 4K at 60 frames-per-second in single-player. No release date was given today for the next-gen release.
During the Gearbox Software panel is was also announced that a plethora of updates and content are still in works for Borderlands 3. New DLC, a new game mode and a new skill tree for each Vault Hunter.
