Nintendo’s June Directs are usually big ones, and this year it was no different.

From the reveal of a new 2D Mario game coming this year to a Detective Pikachu sequel, confirmation of a Star Ocean 2 remake and much more, there’s something in this Nintendo Direct for every type of player. 

Here are all the trailers and news from the June 2023 Nintendo Direct. 

Pokemon Scarlet & Violet – The Hidden Treasures of Area Zero

A new trailer for both parts of The Hidden Treasures of Area Zero showcased the new wilds seen in Part 1 & the school you’ll be visiting in Part 2.

Sonic Superstars 

This was a Switch-focused trailer showcasing that the game has co-op for the first time.

Palia

Palia is a free-to-play farming game coming out later this year.

Persona 5 Tactica

A new trailer for the tactics game Persona 5 Tactica revealed the team-up with the new character Erica and the game’s turn-based and tactical combat. 

Persona 5 Tacticia is releasing on November 17th. 

MythForce

MythForce is a dungeon crawler that looks like a ’90s cartoon. Although I was expecting a top-down adventure, this is a first-person action game you can play with friends online.

MythForce is releasing this year.

Splatoon 3 – Splatfest “Which Flavour of Icecream Is Best?”

Wanting to start fights, Nintendo has made the next Splatfest a “Which ice cream is best? Vanilla?Strawberry?Or mint chip?

This Splatfest will run from July 14th – July 16th.

Detective Pikachu Returns

Detective Pikachu Returns and still loves coffee on October 6th. This is a brand new adventure for Tim Goodman and Pikachu, with more details coming soon.

Super Mario RPG

Super Mario RPG, which was originally released on the NES, has been remade with great new graphics. And it’s going to release on Nintendo Switch on November 17th.

Untitled Princess Peach Game

Peach has her own game on the way, although only a little is shown outside a quick teaser trailer.

Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon Remaster

Nintendo quickly announced that the Nintendo 3DS game Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon is in development, and you guessed it, more information is coming soon ahead of its planned release next year.

Batman: Arkham Trilogy

The Arkham trilogy of games is coming to Nintendo Switch later this year.

Gloomhaven

A big success on PC since its release in 2021, Gloomhaven, the turn-based card combat game, is releasing on Nintendo Switch on September 18th

Here’s a new trailer for Fae Farm, which will be released on September 8th.

Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbo Charged

A new trailer for Hot Wheels Unleashed 2 – Turbo Charged shows some track building and racing.

Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope – The Last Spark Hunter DLC

The final DLC for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope launches today, and a demo for the core game is now on the Nintendo Switch. 

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince

A new entry in the Dragon Quest Monsters series will release later this year on Nintendo Switch. It’s the first game in the series in seven years.

Dragon Quest Monsters: The Dark Prince will release on December 1st.

Pikmin 4

A new trailer for Pikmin 4 gives us our best look at the game yet, and there’s plenty of Space Dog, Oatchi in here, too, so it’s a great trailer. And you’ll be using that good boy to carry Pikmin, smash things, and more. 

A demo of Pikmin 4 will be available to play from June 28th on the Nintendo Switch eShop. 

Pikmin 1 & Pikmin 2 Remasters

Remasters of both Pikmin and Pikmin 2 will be available on the eShop later today.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection – Volume 1

We finally learned what will be included in the Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection – Volume 1

The game includes:

  • MGS: 1

  • MGS 2: Sons of Liberty

  • MGS 3: Snake Eater 

  • Metal Gear

  • Metal Gear: Solid Snake

  • [NES] Metal Gear

  • [NES] Metal Gear: Snakes Revenge. 

Plus, it includes two graphic novels and many extras, like strategy guides. It’s a pretty packed collection.

Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection – Volume 1 will release on October 24th. The games will also be sold separately if you want to buy them that way. 

Vampire Survivors

The auto-shooter, adventure, and all-around addiction that is Vamprie Survivors is coming to Nintendo Switch on August 17th.

DLC is coming to all platforms, including Nintendo Switch, which adds a 4-player local co-op.

Headbangers: Rhythm Royale

A new gameplay trailer for Headbangers: Rhythm Royale showed the minigames you’d be participating in, which are all focused on music and rhythm. 

Headbangers: Rhythm Royale will release on October 31st.

Penny’s Big Breakaway

A new action game from some of the team behind Sonic Mania was announced, titled Penny’s Big Breakaway. It’s a very colourful platformer with a lot of penguins.

Penny’s Big Breakaway will be released in early 2024.

Mario Kart 8 Deluxe – Booster Course Pass

The fifth wave of the Booster Course Pass will add Petey Piranha, Wiggler and Kamek as playable characters. Plus, a new track named “Squeaky Clean Spring” will be coming to the game, which, as the name sounds like, is set inside a bathroom. 

Star Ocean: The Second Story R

A remake of Star Ocean: The Second Story has officially been announced, and it’s titled Star Ocean: The Second Story R. This is a full reimaging of the original game that keeps the same pixel art while updating the gameplay.

Star Ocean: The Second Story R will be released on November 2nd. 

Wario Ware: Move It

A new Wario Ware game was announced with a couple of hundred minigames. It looks like 1-2 Switch but with Wario and, thus, more personality.

Wario Ware: Move It will be released on November 3rd for the Nintendo Switch.

Nintendo Live 2023 – Seattle

Play games, check out performances, and take part in competitions at Nintendo Live 2023 in Seattle later this year. 

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom – Amiibo’s

Two new amiibo were announced based on characters from The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. This holiday season, you’ll be able to add Zelda and Ganondorf to your collection.

Super Mario Bros: Wonder

A wild new 2D Mario game closed out the Nintendo Direct, which has a colourful, bombastic and hypnotic wild world. There are talking plants, plants that make the world act like Mario dropped acid, and he can even turn into an elephant now in one of the most LOL WUT moments in recent Nintendo Direct history.
