It nearly feels like cheating to have The Mandalorian be what everyone’s most excited about this month as it releases right at the end of the month. But we can’t help it. Who isn’t excited about more of that Star Wars show?

There’s a lot more to be excited about this month including the return of Mike Flanagan and his anthology ‘The Haunting’ series so let’s get into what TV shows you should be excited about this October.

The Haunting of Bly Manor – 09/10

The Haunting of Hill House was the Explosion Network’s pick for Best TV Show of 2019, so we have high hopes for the follow-up, The Haunting of Bly Manor

Following the success of the first season, the show was renewed as an anthology series. Mike Flanagan returns alongside some of the key cast from the first season including Henry Thomas and Victoria Pedretti — they’re playing new characters, however.

The story this season follows a young governess who’s hired by a man to look after his niece and nephew after they fall into his care. After arriving at the Bly estate she begins to see apparitions and a haunting begins.

The Haunting of Bly Manor is based on the short horror novella by Henry James titled ‘The Turn of the Screw.’ It’s been adapted many times over the years, including last years The Turning

The Right Stuff – 09/10

Based on the 1979 book of the same name, The Right Stuff tells the story of the Mercury Seven astronauts, their families and the media-focus that turned them into celebrities in the lead-up to the eventual moon landing.

The book has been previously adapted into a three-hour movie by director Philip Kaufman and received eight Oscar nominations, even though it was considered a box office failure.

The story of the Mercury Seven is considered the establishing image for NASA and American astronauts. It’s also wildly considered to be America’s first wild obsession with a ‘reality TV’ program as American families watched hoping to see the Mercury Seven either succeed or fail in their mission.

The Queen’s Gambit – 23/10

Anya Taylor-Joy plays a young chess prodigy in The Queen’s Gambit. The series revolves around Beth’s childhood trauma and struggles with a tranquillizer and alcohol addiction alongside her rise at becoming a chess master, a sport ruled by men.

Godless creator and Logan writer Scott Frank has adapted the 1983 novel about Walter Tevis for this six-episode mini-series.

The Mandalorian (Season 2) – 30/10

The Mandalorian, or as we now know him, Din Djarin, is returning to Disney+ at the end of the month for another season Star Wars goodness.

This season will see The Mandalorian and The Child (Yeetle) wandering the galaxy in search of Jedi. Of course, viewers know that’s not going to be an easy task for Djin so we’ll have to see how close he can get.

Hot on his tail will be Moff Gideon and the remnants of The Empire. We still don’t know what they want The Child for, but it can’t be good.
